In Canada, Cheeses Recalled for Listeria Monocytogenes

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Jan K Overweel Ltd. are recalled two types of cheeses for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to manifest.

The cheeses are Luigi Guffanti 1876 brand Burrata di Corato in 500 gram packages, with no UPC number and Lot 140708. The Best Before date is 23/07/2014. Also recalled is Vecchia Malga Burratina in 100 gram packages. The UPC number is 8 032611 324215 and Lot number is 191. The Best Before date is 26-07-2014.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Return to the place of purcabhse for a refund, then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. If you ate these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those include flu-like symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and stiff neck. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
