Lao Thai Nam Recalls Sompa Salted Fish For Possible Botulism

Lao Thai Nam of Texas is recalling salted fish because it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illness or death. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

Numbr One Sompa Botulism recallThe product is Number One Sompa Salted Fish, packaged in a 7 ounce clear vacuum packaged pouch. The pouch has red and black lettering with a fish logo on the left hand side. The product is a whole processed Tin Foil Barb fish, with UPC number 8 8433200019 4. It was sold in the Irving and Houston areas of Texas in retail stores before 3/31/2014.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if it doesn’t look or smell spoiled. The toxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum does not have any taste or smell. Symptoms of botulism poisoning include general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, and trouble speaking or swallowing. This can lead to paralysis and death. Return the product to the place of purchase or dispose of it in a sealed container.
