Aconite Poisoning Sickens 12 People In Markham, Ontario

Aconite poisoning has sickened 12 people who ate at Delight Restaurant & BBQ located at 1250 Castlemore Avenue, Unit 4 in the city of  Markham, Ontario, which is near Toronto, according to officials at York Region Public Health. Mr. Right Keampferia Galanga Powder that was implicated in these illnesses has tested positive for aconite toxin. People got sick after eating there on Sunday, August 28, 2022. Other packages of that brand of Galanga Powder with the code AT119 tested negative for the toxin. Mr. Right Keampferia Galanga Powder Recalled For Contamination

Mr. Right Keampferia Galanga Powder is being recalled in Canada for possible contamination. This product is associated with illnesses.  It is also known as sand ginger. The recalling firm is Ka Wing Hong. This recall was issued because the product is contaminated with aconite, which comes from the roots of the Monkshood or Wolfsbane plant. This plant is poisonous. It is sometimes used in Chinese herbal medicine after the toxin is removed. Food contaminated with aconite will not look or smell spoiled and it will not have a strange taste or texture. Symptoms of aconite poisoning include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, and irregular heartbeat. This toxin can cause death. FDA Warns Homeopathic Product Manufacturers

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning five homeopathic product manufacturers for significant violations of current good manufacturing practice regulations (CGMP). Warning letters were sent to those companies. Four of the letters target companies who jointly produced a product labeled as homeopathic that was not sterile. The fifth outlines a company's failure to have a system in place that makes sure there is proper design, monitoring, and control of the manufacturing process. Herbal Tea Poisons Two San Francisco Residents

Two residents of San Francisco were sickened by drinking an herbal tea that contained Aconite, a lethal poison, according to the San Francisco Department of Health. The patients are critically ill and were still hospitalized as of March 10, 2017. One of the patients, a women in her 50s, and the other, a man in his 30s, got sick in separate incidents in February and March of this year. They drank tea made from leaves supplied by the same San Francisco herbalist. Each developed weakness, then life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms, requiring resuscitation and intensive hospital care. Aconite was found in the lab tests of the patients and the tea samples they provided.
