Lahaina Sports Bar in Lahaina, Hawaii Closed For Cockroaches

The Lahaina Sports Bar in Lahaina, Hawaii has been closed for a cockroach infestation, according to the State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH). The bar, located at 843 Wainee Street, had a red placard issued on December 7, 2021. Both adult and juvenile cockroach activity was observed. The food establishment must remain closed until all of the violations noted are resolved and the DOH conducts a follow up inspection. Cockroaches can carry many pathogens that cause human disease, including Staphylococcus, Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter Salmonella, and Giardia. Gourmet Catering to Go Warning Letter Details Roaches, Rodents, and Mold

The FDA has sent the company Gourmet Catering to Go a warning letter detailing the violations of Good Manufacturing Practice after an inspection in September and October 2019. That facility is located at 801 Hanger Lane in Nashville, Tennessee. Inspectors found mold, rodent excreta pellets, and dead cockroaches at the facility. The company makes ready to eat meals and food for the airline industry. Based on the FDA's findings, the ready to eat products made in that facility are adulterated "because they were prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth or whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health." Thirty Sickened After Eating Rosca de Reyes Bread

The California Health Care Agency says that more than 30 people from "multiple unrelated groups" have been sickened after eating Rosca de Reyes Bread distributed by Cholula's Bakery in Santa Ana. Symptoms include dizziness, palpitations, stomach aches, and numbness. Several people went to the hospital. Since symptoms happened within 20 minutes of eating the bread, it's probably not an infectious agent that is causing the illnesses. The bread was distributed on January 5 and 6, 2015 to retail outlets in Orange County and Long Beach. It was sold at Cholula's Bakery in Santa Ana, El Nopal Mercado in San Juan Capistrano, La Bodega Ranch in Orange, La Bodega Ranch in Fullerton, Santa Ana Marquet in Santa Ana, and Tony's Liquor in San Juan Capistrano. Knott’s Berry Farm Restaurant Treated for Cockroaches

The restaurant called Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant at Knott's Berry Farm in California was closed this week after cockroaches were found during a routine inspection. The permit for the establishment was restored Thursday, October 7, 2014 after treatment was completed. Officials at the park said the infestation was an "isolated structural incident" and was contained to utility areas in the restaurant. The restaurant was closed from 2:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Cockroach feces can cause allergic reactions and trigger serious asthma symptoms in some people. The insects can also carry pathogenic bacteria, including E. coli, Shigella, Cryptosporidium, and Salmonella, along with parasitic worms. They can also spread typhoid and dysentery.
