Canadian Tofu Salmonella Outbreak is First of Its Kind

A Canadian tofu Salmonella outbreak is the first of its kind, according to the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report for August 11, 2023. Salmonella Typhimurium was the serovar that made people sick. About 38 people in 10 public health districts in Ontario, Canada were sickened. Officials concluded that lapses in sanitation and recommended heat processing likely resulted in the contamination. Tofu has not been linked to nnontyphoidal Salmonella outbreaks before. This outbreak should serve as a warning to consumers, processors, and retailers that Salmonella can be transmitted through ready to eat soy products. Unisoya Organic Tofu Fine Herbs is being recalled in Canada for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to the company or the government to date in connection with the consumption of this item. The recalling company is Unisoya (1986) Inc. The tofu was sold in Quebec at the retail level. The recalled product is Unisoya Organic Tofu Fine Herbs that is packaged in 454 gram containers. The UPC number that is printed on the label is 0 62859 00006 8. The best before date is 21OC04 (October 4, 2021). The recall ws triggered by the company. Two Recalls: Tofu Burritos for Undeclared Soy, Orange Juice and Punch for Undeclared Milk

Two recalls have been issued by the FDA. One is for tofu breakfast burritos that contain undeclared soy; the other is for orange juice products that may contain undeclared milk. Rico Brand is issuing an allergy alert on Tofu Breakfast Burrito for undeclared soy, one of the major food allergens.  No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date. The product was distributed in the state of Utah, more specifically in retail grocery stores in Cache County, Weber County, Salt Lake County, and Utah County. The product is a 12 ounce burrito wrapped in white paper. The label contains green, yellow around the border, and orange as the labels center color. CDC Listeria Warning For Wholesome Soy Sprouts, Tofu, Noodles and Soy Milk

After a Listeria outbreak that killed two people and sickened three others, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning consumers not to eat products produced by Chicago-based Wholesome Soy Inc. These products include: bean sprouts, soft tofu, firm tofu, fried tofu, fried tofu pouches, white tofu, triangular tofu, soybean noodles, and soy milk. The company has not issued a public recall, instead telling investigators from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it plans to contact its customers by telephone. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as they risk serious, life-threatening illness if they do.
