Largest Multi-State Food Poisoning Outbreaks of 2013: #8

An E.coli outbreak linked to ready-to-eat salads made by Glass Onion Catering and sold at Trader Joe’s stores was the eighth-largest multi-state food poisoning outbreak of 2013. The four-state outbreak sickened 33 people, seven of whom were hospitalized, two with hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Most of the illnesses occurred in California where 28 people were sickened.  Arizona and Texas each had one illness and Washington had three. Public health investigators linked the illnesses to two ready-to-eat salads, Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken and Mexicali Salad with Chili Lime Chicken. About 86 percent of the 22 patients interviewed said they shopped at Trader Joe’s and 80 percent reported eating the salads. Trader Joe’s E. coli Outbreak Ends With 33 Sick in 4 States

The E.coli outbreak linked to ready-to-eat salads made by Glass Onion Catering and sold at Trader Joe's stores has ended after sickening 33 people in four states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced today. Seven people were hospitalized, two of whom developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Public health investigators used epidemiologic and traceback investigations to link two ready-to-eat salads, Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken and Mexicali Salad with Chili Lime Chicken, produced by Glass Onion Catering and sold at Trader Joe’s to illnesses in four states. FDA, USDA Update Retail List for Recalled E. coli Salads, Wraps

The USDA and FDA have issued an updated retail list of stores that sold the Glass Onion Catering chicken and ham salads and wraps that have been recalled for possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. There is an outbreak associated with this recall. As of November 21, 2013, there are 32 people ill in 4 states. The recalled products were sold in Trader Joe's stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington state. The outbreak is linked to two Trader Joe's salads. Walgreens stores sold the salad in northern California, as did Whole Food stores. Look through the long list carefully. It mentions retailers, the street address, and city by name. Trader Joe’s E.coli Outbreak Expands: 32 Sick in 4 States

An E. coli outbreak linked to salads and wraps produced by Glass Onion Catering and sold at Trader Joe's and other stores has expanded to include 32 people in four states, according to the latest update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Seven people have been hospitalized,  two of whom have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a condition that leads to kidney failure. The outbreak strain of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 has never before been seen by public health officials. Two E. coli Outbreaks Linked to Prepared Foods This Year

The E. coli outbreak linked to ready-to-eat salads sold at Trader Joe's and other stores is the second multistate E. coli outbreak linked to prepared foods this year. The first one, announced in March, was linked to frozen snack foods sold under the Farm Rich, Market Day and Schwan's brands. In the current outbreak, at least 26 people in three states have been sickened with E. coli O157:H7 infections after eating Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken and Mexicali Salad with Chili Lime Chicken, produced by Glass Onion Catering and sold at Trader Joe’s stores. Walgreens, Trader Joe’s Sold Salads Linked to E. coli Outbreak

Salads and sandwich wraps linked to a multistate E. coli outbreak were sold at Walgreens stores in Northern California and Trader Joe's stores in California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona, according to a retail distribution list compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS).  At least 26 people who ate the salads or sandwich wraps containing the salads, have become ill. Six of them have been hospitalized. The products were sold at Walgreens under the brand name Delish. Athertone Foods has issued a recall for two Delish brand salads and one sandwich wrap sold at Walgreens. Fast-Growing Glass Onion Catering Under Scrutiny for E. coli

The California company at the center of a multi-state outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 associated with gourmet style, grab-and-go salads and wraps sold at Trader Joe's and other large and moderately sized retail chains is a fast-growing firm that only recently undertook a large expansion to serve a growing market. Now the company, known as Glass Onion Catering and Gourmet Foods, is the focus of investigation by three federal agencies and several state health departments in connection with its recall this week of 181,620 pounds of ready-to-eat salads and sandwich wrap products with fully-cooked chicken and ham that the feds say may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Chicken Salad and Wraps Recalled After E. coli O157:H7 Outbreak

Glass Onion Catering of California is recalling 181,620 pounds of ready-to-eat salads and sandwich wrap products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. A cluster of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses was reported beginning on October 29, 2013. FDA notified USDA on November 6, 2013 that authorities in California reported ill persons who consumed packaged salads made with grilled fully cooked chicken. The products were sold under the brand names Trader Joe's, Delish, Atherstone Fine Foods, Super Fresh Foods, and Lunch Spot. The California Department of Public Health, the Washington State Department of Health, and the Arizona Department of Health Services along with FSIS found there is a link between the grilled chicken salads and the sick people. Trader Joe’s Frozen Chicken And Rice Recalled For Listeria

Trader Joe's Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice frozen meals are  being recalled for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. About 4,865 pounds of  the product, which is made ny Aliya's, were distributed in Canada and the US. Products imported to the United States were distribute to Trader Joe's stores which have all been contacted and told to remove the product from store shelves. The products under recall are 12.5 oz boxes of "Trader Joe's Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice" with  the product code "2012-10-31" and lot code "30512" Trader Joe's stores received 240 cartons of the product.
