Mediterranean-style Chicken Products Recalled for Undeclared Allergens and Misbranding

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Food Evolution, LLC, headquartered in Schiller Park, Illinois, has announced a Class I Recall of 150 pounds of its Mediterranean-style chicken cous cous salad products. These products may contain pecans, which are not declared on the product’s labelling. “Class I” Recalls are classified as a “High Risk” health hazard situation by the FSIS. It is probable that people who are allergic to pecans may experience “serious, adverse health consequences or death” if they consume the chicken cous cous salad products. Cassava Cake and Mixed Nut Mooncake Recalled for Multiple Undeclared Allergens

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that Sunshine Bakery, headquartered in Alhambra, California, has issued a voluntary recall of its Cassava Cake and Mixed Nut Mooncake products. Both products contain the following undeclared food allergens: peanuts, coconut, almonds, and cashews. Some products may also contain sunflower seeds. The cassava and mooncake products are stamped with a “best by” date of 3/24/2017 and were distributed to retail stores on 2/24/2017. The Cassava Cakes, sliced either in brown squares or in red/yellow strips, were packaged on white foam trays and covered in clear plastic wrap. Fresh Express Caesar Salad Kits Recalled for Undeclared Nuts

Fresh Express Inc. of Orlando has issued a recall for some Caesar salad kits that may contain undeclared walnuts. Consumers with an allergy or sensitivity to nuts should not eat these salads as they risk allergic reaction if they do. About 2,449 cases of the recalled products, which were sold in 7.6 ounce packages, were distributed to 19 states primarily in the Southeast. Michel et Augustin Inc. of Brooklyn, NY, is recalling approximately 900 packages of Petites Baguettes Butter Cookies Dark Chocolate, 6 packs only, because they may contain undeclared hazelnuts. House of Flavors Inc. is recalling Purple Cow Limited Edition Cookie Butter Ice Cream sold at Meijer stores, in 8 oz cups because it contains undeclared nuts. The recalled ice cream actually contains Purple Cow Butter Pecan Ice Cream and has a Purple Cow Butter Pecan lid. Consumers who may have an allergy or sensitivity to nuts should not eat this ice cream as they run the risk of potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they do.For consumers who are not allergic to nuts, there is no safety issue with this product. Whole Foods in Oakland Recalls Jivara Lactee Milk Chocolate Valrhona

The Whole Foods store in Oakland, located at 230 Bay Place, is recalling Jivara Lactee Milk Chocolate Valrhona cut and wrap pieces due to undeclared hazelnuts on the product label. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to hazelnuts should not eat this product as they run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they do. One mild reaction has been reported to-date. The recalled candy pieces were wrapped in clear plastic wrap with "packed on" dates prior to May 19th 2015 and the  UPC 250344025508. WhiteWave Foods of Broomfield, CO.  is recalling 7.5 oz packages of Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to peanuts should not eat this product as they run the risk of serious or life- threatening allergic reaction if they do.  At the time the recall was announced, no illnesses or adverse reaction had been reported. The problem is attributed to an inadvertent packaging error. The outer package is labeled as a cheddar sandwich cracker and the inner package contains the peanut butter sandwich crackers. Abdallah Candies Recalls Holiday Caramel Bites for Peanuts

Abdallah Candies is recalling red and silver foil wrapped Holiday Caramel Bites after one customer has reported finding a peanut butter bite, wrapped in red foil, in a bag of holiday caramel bites. No allergic reactions or illnesses have been reported, according to the Burnsville, Min.-based company.
