The Almark Eggs Listeria outbreak has ended with 8 sick in 5 states, 5 hospitalized, and 1 death, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's latest announcement. A recall was issued for Almark Foods hard boiled eggs that had "Best If Used By" dates through March 2, 2020. These eggs are past their shelf life and shouldn't be available for sale, but some consumers may still have them in their homes and restaurants could have them in storage coolers. They should be discarded. The case count by state is: Florida (1), Maine (2), Pennsylvania (1), South Carolina (2), and Texas (2). Largest Multistate Food Poisoning Outbreaks of 2014: #10
A Salmonella outbreak linked to peanut and almond butters made by nSpired Natural Foods Inc. was the tenth-largest food poisoning outbreak of 2014. The outbreak sickened six people in five states, one person was hospitalized. The products were sold under the brand names Arrowhead Mills and MaraNatha at a number of grocery stores including Arrowhead Mills, MaraNathha, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Safeway and Kroger. Health officials used pulsed field gel electrophoresis and whole genome sequencing tests to identify the outbreak strain, Salmonella Braenderup, in case patients and in environmental samples collected from inspections at nSpired Natural Foods in January and July 2014. nSpired Foods issued a recall for the products. Almond Butter at Center of Salmonella Food Recall
Almond butters packaged for Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Kroger and Safeway stores make up a sizable portion of a Salmonella recall that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have highlighted since August 19. Officials are concerned that the recalled products could sit for months in home pantries, possibly expanding an outbreak of salmonellosis that has sickened people in Texas, Iowa, Connecticut and Tennessee.
