Boston’s Los Amigos Taqueria Closed Again After Inspection

Boston's Los Amigos Taqueria is closed by public health officials again after failing an inspection on June 23, 2023. Dozens of patrons were sickened with Salmonella food poisoning in May 2023 after eating at the establishment, which is located at 366 Washington Street in Brighton, Massachusetts. Consumers with confirmed illness recently reported eating at this location according to the inspection report. At that time, inspectors found multiple violations of the food code, including no sanitizer set up, certified food managers certificate was expired, wire rack shelving units that had visible rust and soil, and the interior walls and ceiling of the walk in unit with visible soil and mold-like substances. Siga Logistics Basil Imported From Mexico May Be Source of Cyclospora Outbreaks

There are now six cyclospora outbreaks sickening people in several states around the country. What is the culprit?  Past outbreaks have been linked to lettuce, raspberries, and cilantro. We may have an answer today: the FDA has just released information stating that there is a multistate outbreak of cyclospora illnesses potentially linked to Siga Logistics basil. The full company name is Siga Logistics de RL de CV that is located in Morelos, Mexico. The investigation is ongoing, but CDC's analysis of epidemiologic information indicates that the contaminated fresh basil is the likely cause of the illnesses. Boston Cyclospora Outbreak Has Now Sickened More Than 100

The Boston cyclospora outbreak has now sickened more than 100 people, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Those reports of illness have come in since May 1, 2019. In a typical year in that state, about 18 to 33 people are infected with this parasite. Most of the cases are in the greater Boston area, but some have been reported throughout the state. Other states, including New York, have reported increases in the number of cyclosporiasis cases, but the cause is still unknown. Last year, a huge cyclospora outbreak linked to McDonald's salads sickened more than 500 people, and 250 were sickened after eating Del Monte vegetable trays sold at Kwik Trip stores in the midwest.
