Giant, Kroger, Rainbow, BI-LO, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop May be Part of Salmonella Mango Recall

Splendid Products has recalled Daniella brand mangoes imported from Mexico that may be linked to a Salmonella Braenderup outbreak in the United States. In Canada, those mangoes have been recalled and are definitively linked to an outbreak that has sickened 21 people: 5 in Alberta and 16 in British Columbia. The mangoes have a PLU number on the sticker attached to the fruit. The PLU numbers for the recalled mangoes that have been reported today include 3114, 4959, 4051, 4321, 4311, 4961, and 4584. Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup

The CDC has announced a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup that may be linked to Daniella mangoes imported from Mexico. According to the latest report, 103 people are ill in 16 states. Twenty-five people have been hospitalized out of the 69 who have been interviewed. The government has not released the state by state case count, but they do say that California has the majority of illnesses, at 78. Most people became ill during the month of July. For people who have been interviewed, illness dates range from July 3, 2012 to August 11, 2012. The age range of patients is from 1 to 86 years; the median age is 32. Canadian, U.S. Recalls of Daniella Mangoes for Salmonella Expand; Outbreak Grows

The Canadian and U.S. recalls of Daniella mangoes imported from Mexico for possible Salmonella Braenderup have expanded. The mangoes were sold as individual fruit or as part of a multi-pack. The sticker on the fruit recalled in Canada has the PLU number 4959 or 4051. The mangoes were sold at various stores between July 12, 2012 and August 28, 2012. They may have been distributed nationally. The importer, Mex Y Can Trading Inc. is voluntarily recalling the mangoes from the marketplace. Consumers are advised to contact their retailers to find out if they have the affected mangoes. Stores are supposed to know where their produce came from and they should tell you when you ask. CDC Adds Three More Deaths to 2011 Jensen Farms Listeria Cantaloupe Toll

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has raised the official death toll of last year's Jensen Farms cantaloupe Listeria monocytogenes outbreak from 30 to 33. A total of 147 people in 28 states were part of the outbreak. In addition, seven pregnant women were sickened in this outbreak. One suffered a miscarriage, and three infants were born with listeriosis. After the government issued its final update on December 8, 2011, a fifth outbreak-associated subtype of Listeria monocytogenes was found on a cantaloupe that was in a patient's home. A search of PulseNet database identified the same subtype on a cantaloupe collected during the investigation. Daniella Mangoes May be Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

Daniella-brand mangoes may be linked to a Salmonella Braenderup outbreak that has sickened more than 73 people in California. Six people in Washington state are also ill with this bacteria, but the state is not prepared to link those illnesses to the fruit. The mangoes, imported from Mexico, have been recalled in Canada, where they are linked to 22 illnesses. Giant Food stores, Stop & Shop, and Martin's stores have recalled the mangoes. Update: The FDA has announced the Splendid Products LLC and Giant Food stores recall. Charlie's Produce has voluntarily recalled the Daniella mangoes with PLU number 4959. Salmonella Outbreak In Canada Linked To Mexican Mangoes

A Salmonella outbreak linked to mangoes produced in Mexico has sickened at least 22 people in Canada, according to the public health agency of Canada. The mangoes were produced by the Daniella company of Mexico and distributed July 12-August 14 by importer North American Produce Sales, Vancouver, BC. So far, 17 people in British Columbia and 5 people in Alberta have been sickened by the outbreak strain Salmonella Braenderup. North American Produce Sales has issued a recall of the mangoes which were distributed to British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. The recall is being monitored by Canadian Food Inspection Agency.  Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious sometimes fatal illness if in ingested. Authorities Unable to Find Source of Neff’s Picnic E. coli 0157:H7 Outbreak

Dayton & Montgomery County public health authorities have been unable to find the cause of the E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak that sickened 79 people and killed one person. Two people contracted secondary cases of the infection from person-to-person contact. The outbreak was linked to the Neff's Lawn Care customer appreciation picnic that took place in Germantown, Ohio on July 3, 2012. Of those sickened in the outbreak, twenty people tested positive for the outbreak strain of the bacteria and 14 people were hospitalized. Three of those hospitalized developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, and one 73-year-old man died. Authorities Offer Advice on Cantaloupe During Salmonella Outbreak

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other agencies, including some university extension services, are issuing guides for consumers about cantaloupe and the recent Salmonella outbreak. The outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium announced this past week has many consumers uneasy about buying and eating melons. Because the government has not said which facilities bought the cantaloupe for resale, the CDC is telling consumers to check with their retailer if the cantaloupe came from Chamberlain Farms Produce, Inc. Supermarkets must tell you the origin of a product if you ask. Minnesota Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Hoffman Meat Market Turkey Jerky

The Minnesota Department of Health is warning consumers to not eat whole-muscle turkey jerky made by Hoffman Town & Country Meat Market in Detroit Lakes because it has been linked to a cluster of four cases of Salmonella. All four patients ate turkey jerky during the week before they became ill, from August 2 through August 7, 2012. One patient lives in the Twin Cities metro area; the other three live in Greater Minnesota. One person was hospitalized. All have since recovered. Hoffman Town & Country Meat Market has issued a recall of all whole-muscle turkey jerky product sold on or before August 21, 2012. The product was wrapped in white butcher paper. Walmart, Schnucks, Other Chains Recall Cantaloupe

Several major grocery chains have recalled the cantaloupes associated with the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak that has sickened 178 people in 21 states. So far, WalMart, Schnucks, Meijer, and Marsh have pulled the recalled cantaloupes from their shelves. Kroger has pulled cantaloupes recalled by Burch Farms for Listeria. The cantaloupes, produced and processed by Chamberlain Farm Produce Inc. of Owensville, Indiana, were shipped from June 21, 2012 to August 16, 2012. The farm started recalling the cantaloupes on August 17, 2012.
