FSIS Posts Retail List of Stores That Received XL Foods Beef Recalled for E. coli 0157:H7

The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has posted a list of retail facilities that received boneless beef trim products imported from Canada that were recalled for possible E. coli 0157:H7 contamination. Beef trim is used to make ground beef and ground beef products. The stores that received this product used it to make their own brands of ground beef and products using ground beef. USDA Updates E. coli 0157:H7 Public Health Alert for Canadian XL Foods Beef

The USDA has updated its public health alert about E. coli 0157:H7 in imported XL Foods beef. Standard recall effectiveness checks have found that whole muscle beef cuts produced on the same dates as the recalled ground beef. Sub-prime materials, such as short ribs, were "produced on the same production dates as beef subject to recall in Canada were being used by a U.S. facility to manufacture other products and that the beef short ribs were being trimmed in order for the trim to be used to make ground beef." In other words, beef from cattle slaughtered at Establishment 38 (XL Foods) was produced under unsanitary conditions that contaminated many products. Canadian XL Foods Ground Beef E. coli Recall Expands for Sixth Time

The public warning and recall of XL Foods beef products has expanded for a sixth time. The products may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The products were sold at Foodland, Sobeys, and small butcher shops, other small retailers, and local meat markets. You can see the list of recalled products at the CFIA web site. Products include all store-made ground beef products, meatloaf, meatballs, various types of ground beef, and beef patties. Canada Updates XL Foods Ground Beef E. Coli Investigation

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has updated its investigation into the recall of XL Foods Inc. ground beef and ground beef products for E. coli 0157:H7. The recall has just been expanded again to include more products sold at Freson Bros., Sobeys/Foodland, IGA, and Douglas Meats (Marketplace Co-op). Look at the long list of recalled products carefully to see if you have purchased any of them. The recalled products now include beef jerky, various flavors of beef patties, meatloaf, meatballs, along with ground beef. In fact, Sobeys/Foodland is recalling all store-made ground beef products. XL Foods Ground Beef E. coli 0157:H7 Recall Expands for a Fourth Time

The Canadian Food Inspection Service is recalling additional ground beef products produced by XL Foods because they  may contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The recall includes unlabeled and/or unbranded ground beef products that were sold from August 24 through September 16, 2012 at retail stores not included in the product list. Small retailers, local meat markets, and butcher shops may have stocked and sold the recalled products. You can see the long list of products at the CFIA web site. USDA Issues Alert for Possible E. coli in Raw Boneless Beef Trim From Canada

The USDA has issued a Public Health Alert for raw boneless beef trim products imported from Canada that may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) tested the product produced by XL Foods (Est. 38) and was confirmed positive for the pathogenic bacteria on September 3, 2012. This triggered the original recall of XL ground beef products on September 16, 2012. The company has notified its customers, including U.S. establishments, about the recalled product. FSIS is working to perform effectiveness checks to make sure that all trim received from Est. 38 either "received a full lethality treatment or that no raw trim was further distributed into other no-ready-to-eat product," according to the USDA. Canadian XL Foods Ground Beef Recall for E. coli Expands Again

The recall for XL Foods ground beef products has expanded for the third time in three days. The products may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The expanded recall includes unlabeled and/or unbranded ground beef products that were available for sale from August 24 through September 16, 2012 and sold at retail stores not identified in the CFIA's product list. Because of this uncertainty, the CFIA is advising consumers who are not sure if they purchased the affected ground beef to return it to the place of purchase or throw it out. In Canada, Glatt’s Ground Beef and Veal Recalled for E. coli 0157:H7

The CFIA and Continental Strictly Kosher Meat, Poultry and Delicatessen Products are recalling ground beef and ground veal products because they may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The following Glatt's brand products are being recalled: lean ground veal, lean ground beef, medium ground beef, and medium ground beef club pack. New Hampshire Part Of Cargill, Hannaford Ground Beef Salmonella Outbreak

Three New Hampshire residents are part of the multi-state Salmonella outbreak linked to Cargill ground beef sold at Hannaford grocery stores, according to the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. (NHDHHS). More than 30 people in seven states contracted Salmonella poisoning after eating ground beef processed May 25 by Cargill Meat Solutions of Wyalusing, Pa. The meat was distributed throughout the Northeast. At Hannaford grocery stores, the 85/15%” mixture  was sold  in packages labeled with "sell by" dates from May 25 - May 28. Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Cargill Ground Beef Sold at Hannaford Stores

A Salmonella outbreak linked to Cargill ground beef sold at Hannaford stores has sickened 33 people in seven states and hospitalized least two, according to the latest information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA, FSIS). Cargill Meat Solutions, in  Wyalusing, Pa., has issued a recall of  29,339 pounds of ground beef  that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis. FSIS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state health departments had been working in cooperation on an ongoing investigation of a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis when the link was extablished.
