Butterball Ground Turkey Salmonella Schwarzengrund Outbreak Sickens 6

The Butterball ground turkey Salmonella Schwarzengrund outbreak first reported in a USDA recall notice has sickened 6 people in 3 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). One person has been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. The patient case count by state is: Minnesota (1), North Carolina (1), and Wisconsin (4). Illnesses started on dates ranging from December 19, 2018 to February 2, 2019. The patient age range is from less than one year to 71. Epidemiologic and laboratory evidence indicates that ground turkey produced by Butterball, LLC is the likely source of this Salmonella Schwarzengrund outbreak. Salmonella Schwarzengrund Outbreak Associated With Butterball Ground Turkey; Some May Sue

A Salmonella Schwarzengrund outbreak that has sickened at least five people in two states is associated with Butterball, Kroger, and Food Lion brand ground turkey. The outbreak announcement was hidden in the USDA recall notice. Four of the patients in this outbreak live in Wisconsin. And those four Wisconsin patients live in one residence. The other state where the fifth ill person lives was not mentioned in the notice. All of the expiration dates for these products are in 2018. Butterball Ground Turkey Recalled; Associated with Salmonella Schwarzengrund Outbreak

Butterball LLC in North Carolina is recalling about 78,164 pounds of raw ground turkey products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella Schwarzengrund. The prepackaged raw ground turkey was produced on July 7, 2018. An outbreak is associated with this recall; at least five people, including four in Wisconsin, are sick. The ground turkey was also packaged under the Food Lion and Kroger brand names. These are the recalled products: 48-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “BUTTERBALL everyday Fresh Ground Turkey WITH NATURAL FLAVORING (85% LEAN/15% FAT)” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18 and lot code 8188.
