Meyer Lemon Mini Miracle Party Pack Recalled for Mislabeling Error: Cashews

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall by Merry LLC of its “Meyer Lemon Mini Miracle Tart Party Pack of 6” product. Although the cashews present in the product are declared on the “Ingredients” list, the packaging does not include cashews in the required allergens statement. This recall was prompted after a consumer noticed the labeling error and notified the company. The Meyer Lemon Mini Miracle Tart Party packs (net weight: 4.65 ounces) were distributed nationwide to retail stores. They are packaged in a 6-item black tray enclosed by a yellow sleeve marked with the UPC code 816247010876 on the back. Lasagna Product Recalled by Italian Gluten Free Food CL for Undeclared Egg

“Chef Luca’s Lasagna Al Forno – Baked Cheese Lasagna” has been recalled after one consumer suffered anaphylaxis shock on May 12th, 2017, after eating it. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Italian Gluten Free Food CL initiated the recall after investigating the incident and discovering that the lasagna may contain the undeclared egg allergen. Italian Gluten Free CL is headquartered in Merrick, New York. The ingredients list and required allergy warning on the 15-ounce (425 grams) packages of the lasagna did not declare the presence of eggs. Foods, Inc., based in Palmyra, Pennsylvania, has recalled a single lot of its “Wegmans Family Pack Food You Feel Good About Potato Salad.” This product may contain the egg allergen, which is not declared on its labeling. The affected lot of erroneously packaged and labeled ice cream products was shipped nationwide to retail stores. CFIA Issues Recall of London Dry Gin for High Alcohol Content

The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) has initiated a recall of Bombay Sapphire-brand London Dry Gin following a food safety inspection of the product. According to the Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), this product should be removed from store shelves due to its excessively high alcohol content. The recall arose from an error during production in which one batch of the gin was bottled before it was diluted to its proper 40% alcohol content by volume. This batch thus has a 77% alcohol content by volume, almost twice the level stated on the labeling. The Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin was distributed nationwide across Canada in 1.14 L bottles. Whole Foods Non-Dairy Spiced Golden Milk Mislabeled as Apple Juice Recalled for Nut Allergens

These containers actually contain Urban Remedy’s “Non-Dairy Spiced Golden Milk” – a product that contains tree nut (specifically, cashew) allergens. The mislabeled Golden Milk product was packaged in 16-ounce plastic bottles affixed with Whole Foods Market “Cold Pressed Apple Juice” labels. Recalled Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios Sicken 125

At least 125 people became sick after eating Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios that contained gluten but were labeled as gluten free, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Most of those sickened reported gastro-intestinal problems. The products are safe to eat for anyone who is not gluten intolerant, does not have celiac disease, or is not allergic to wheat. Minneapolis-based General Mills issued a recall for 1.8 million boxes of the cereals on October 5 after discovering the problem. Other varieties of Cheerios are not affected. "We recognize the importance of this issue to people with celiac disease, wheat allergy, and gluten sensitivity, and we will continue to provide updates and advice as needed," the FDA said in statement. North Carolina Seafood Processor Sentenced

Alphin Brothers Inc.,a seafood processor and wholesale distributor in North Carolina, was sentenced this month in federal court for falsely labeling imported shrimp. An employee purchased shrimp on the company's behalf and directed employees to falsely label farm-raised imported shrimp as a wild-caught product of the U.S. This mislabeled product was sold by Alphin Brothers to customers in Louisiana through interstate commerce. The facility was ordered to pay a criminal fine of $100,000 and to forfeit about 21,450 pounds of shrimp. The company will also serve three years of probation. And they must implement a training program to educate employees on federal labeling requirements and laws. Walgreens Pulls Phony Herbal Supplements; Walmart, Target, GNC Keep Selling

After tests showed their store-brand herbal supplements did not to contain the herbs on their labels,  Walmart, Walgreens Target and GNC all received cease and desist letters from New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman yesterday.  Only Walgreens has responded by pulling the products. Walmart Target and GNC issued statements that they were looking into the matter. While they do, their shoppers cam feel free to shell out $8-$10 on bottles full of sand, allium, pine, wheat/grass, rice mustard, citrus, dracaena (houseplant) or cassava (tropical tree root), but labeled Ginseng, Garlic, St John' Wort or Echinacea.
