Kratom Maeng Da Red Powder and Capsules Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Club 13 of Augustine, Florida, has recalled Maeng Da Red kratom powder that was sold in several forms because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the products that have the lot numbers listed below, but there is a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to kratom containing products in the U.S. at this time. These pouches and bottles of powder and capsules were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail order. The "Maeng Da Red" powder products are packaged in 15-gram, 30-gram, 90-gram, 150-gram, and 454-gram packages marked with lot # MRMD012618 on the back of the pouch. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Kratom Products Grows to 132 Sick

The Salmonella outbreak linked to kratom products has grown to include 132 people sick, according to a new notice posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Forty-five more ill persons from 19 states have been added to the outbreak total since the last update on March 15, 2018. Three more states have been added to the case count: Connecticut, Iowa, and Idaho. The CDC and FDA recommend that no one consume any brand of kratom in any form because it could be contaminated with Salmonella. This compound is also known as Kakuam, Thang, Them, Biak, and Ketom. Nutrizone is correcting its recall of various dietary supplements for possible Salmonella contamination. They are updating an incorrectly reported lot number, indicating that the Pain Out Maeng Da lot number was 10957. It is actually 10959. Consumers who bought this product should verify the lot number. This recall is for potential Salmonella contamination. The company is aware of four confirmed cases of Salmonella associated with the consumption of red and white vein products. PDX Aromatics, doing business as Kraken Kratom, Phytoextractum, and Soul Speciosa, is expanding the recall of kratom products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. There is a large Salmonella outbreak that is linked to kratom containing products, but the recall notice did not state whether or not any illnesses are linked to these specific products. FDA Investigates Multistate Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Products Reportedly Containing Kratom

The FDA has weighed in on the Salmonella outbreak linked to products reportedly containing kratom. The investigation has expanded to include four Salmonella serotypes. They are Salmonella Javiana, Salmonella Okatie, Salmonella Thompson, and the original strain, Salmonella I 4,[5],12:b:-. As of March 14, 2018, 87 people are infected with the outbreak strains. Fifty people are sick with Salmonella I 4,[5],12:b:- infections; five are sick with Salmonella Javiana infections, sixteen are sick with Salmonella Okatie infections; and sixteen are ill with Salmonella Thompson infections. Twenty-seven patients have been hospitalized because their illnesses are so serious. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Kratom Products Grows to 87 Sick

The multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to kratom products has grown to 87 sick in 35 states. That is an increase of 47 more ill persons since the last update on March 2, 2018 and the addition of eight states. The states added to the outbreak count include Alaska, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, Texas, and West Virginia. The outbreak also now includes three more strains of Salmonella: Salmonella Javiana, Salmonella Okatie, and Salmonella Thompson, in addition to the original strain of I 4,[5],12:b:-. The outbreak strains have been found in samples collected from kratom and from ill persons. Twenty seven people, or 38%, of patients have been hospitalized. Last week, the CDC warned the public about a Salmonella  I 4,[5],12:b:- outbreak that was linked to kratom powder. Forty people in 27 states have been sickened in this outbreak; fourteen people have been hospitalized. On Saturday, March 10, 2018, the FDA released an announcement stating that PDX Aromatics Kratom Powder has been recalled because it may have been contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have updated the Salmonella I 4,[5],12:b:- outbreak linked to Kratom products. The case count now stands at 40 sickened, with 14 hospitalized. That is an increase of 12 patients since the last update on February 20, 2018. Seven more states have reported ill people: Delaware (1), Georgia (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), Virginia (1), Washington (1) and Wisconsin (1). And the outbreak strain of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:b:- was found in two samples of leftover kratom powder collected from ill persons in North Dakota and Utah. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Kratom Products Grows to 40 Sick

The FDA is reporting that there are now 40 people in 27 states sick with Salmonella infections that are linked to products that contain kratom, a dietary supplement. Fourteen of those people have been hospitalized because their illnesses are so severe. That is an increase of 12 more people since the last update on February 20, 2018. The strain of bacteria that is causing these illnesses is Salmonella I 4,[5],12:b:-. The outbreak strain has been identified in two samples of leftover kratom powder that was taken from ill persons' homes in North Dakota and Utah.
