Agave Dream Cappuccino Ice Cream Recalled for Listeria

Agave Dream of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA is recalling Cappuccino Ice Cream for potential Listeria contamination. Although no illnesses were reported at the time of the recall, people who have purchased this ice cream should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. he recall is the result of a routine sampling by the state of WA which revealed that the finished products contained the bacteria. Frozen Vegetable Listeria Outbreak Triggered Recall of 456 Products

A Listeria outbreak linked to frozen vegetables that ended this week triggered the recall of 456 products sold under dozens of brand names, according to a report by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Although the outbreak has ended, health officials are concerned that consumers may still have some of the vegetables in their freezers and caution everyone who purchases frozen vegetables to check recall information carefully. The outbreak sickened nine people in California, Connecticut, Maryland, and Washington between September 2013 and May 2016. Updated June 29, 2016.  A May 4 sunflower seed Listeria recall by SunOpta has triggered a cascade of others.  Here is a roundup of the Listeria recalls for sunflower seeds or products containing them. There is now a listeriosis outbreak; at least two people are sick. First Source sunflower seed products are associated with this outbreak. Atlantic Spice Recalls Sunflower Seeds, Snack Mixes for Listeria

Atlantic Spice Company Inc. of North Truro, MA has issued a recall for 16 ounce packages of Sunflower Seeds Roasted Salted, Tropical Mix and Cranberry Health Mix snacks because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall was issued after the sunflower seed supplier, SunOpta, issued a recall. At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported. Food Safety Issues Prompt FDA Warning Letter to Whole Foods North Atlantic Kitchen

Food safety violations at the Whole Foods North Atlantic Kitchen in Everett, Mass. are serious enough that food made there is considered adulterated, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration told the company in a warning letter dated June 8, 2016. Among the agency's finding at the facility was a positive tests for non-pathogenic Listeria on food contact surfaces.  The finding shows conditions inside the facility would support the presence and growth of Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen, the agency said. Under the Food and Drug Act, foods are considered adulterated if they "were prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have been contaminated with filth or rendered injurious to health."
