Linked to Salmonella Outbreak, Osamu Recalls Yellowfin Tuna

After being linked to an 11-state Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 60 people, Osamu Corporation of Gardena, CA is recalling frozen yellowfin tuna chunk meat  processed in Indonesia. The product was distributed to grocery stores, restaurants and institutional kitchens nationwide. The product was also sold to AFC Corporation of Rancho Dominquez, CA which operates sushi counters in grocery stores. Officials from the Minnesota Department of Health have linked two illnesses in that state to AFC tuna. Consumers concerned about whether the sushi they purchased from a grocery store sushi counter contained the recalled tuna product should check with the store where they made the purchase. Salmonella Outbreak at Open Source Bridge Conference in Portland

A Salmonella outbreak associated with the Open Source Bridge Conference at the Eliot Center in downtown Portland has sickened 53 people, according to the Multnomah County Health Department. Nine cases are lab-confirmed. The conference took place from June 23 to 26, 2015. The investigation is centering on about 100 different food items prepared through several catering sources. The food was served over a four-day period to about 500 people. Deputy Health Officer Dr. Jennifer Vines said in a statement, "we believe this was an isolated event that did not occur beyond the conference. We are monitoring illness in Oregon to assure that this is the case." Other states and the CDC have been informed of this outbreak. One in Oklahoma Sick: Barber Foods Raw Chicken Salmonella Outbreak Grows

The Salmonella outbreak linked to Barber Foods raw, frozen stuffed breaded chicken products has grown to include another patient. This person lives in Oklahoma, which increases the outbreak case count to three states. Now at least seven people are sick with Salmonella Enteritidis linked to these products. The case count by state is: Minnesota (5), Wisconsin (1), and Oklahoma (1). Two of these people have been hospitalized. No deaths are reported. Illness onset dates range from April 5, 2015 to June 23, 2015. A public health alert was issued on July 1, 2015 about a Salmonella outbreak associated with raw, frozen, breaded and pre-browned, stuffed chicken products. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Raw Frozen Tuna Grows Again

Seven more people are sick with Salmonella infections in the multistate outbreak linked to frozen raw tuna. Now at least 60 people are sick with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Paratyphi B variant L(+) tartrate(+) in eleven states. Eleven people have been hospitalized in this outbreak; no deaths are reported. Most of the ill persons reported eating sushi made with raw tuna the week before they got sick. The Minnesota Department of Health isolated the outbreak strain of Salmonella from samples of unopened frozen raw tuna collected from a Minnesota grocery store. Second MN Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Recalled Aspen Chicken

The USDA has announced that the second Minnesota Salmonella outbreak has been linked to Aspen Foods raw, breaded, stuffed frozen chicken products. The first outbreak, which has sickened at least six people, has been linked to recalled Barber Foods frozen raw chicken products. This Salmonella outbreak has sickened three people in Minnesota. Aspen Foods Recalls Frozen Breaded Chicken for Salmonella

Aspen Foods is recalling 1,978,680 pounds of frozen, raw, stuffed and breaded chicken products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis. These products are linked to a Salmonella outbreak in Minnesota. They were sold under multiple brand names. These products were produced between April 15, 2015 and July 10, 2015 with "best if used by" dates between July 14, 2016 and October 10, 2016. The product has the establishment number "P-1358" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were shipped to stores and food service locations nationwide. FSIS was notified of a Salmonella outbreak on June 23, 2015. Three case-patients have been identified in Minnesota. Advice for Consumers About Recalled Barber Foods Chicken

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released advice to consumers about the Salmonella outbreak linked to Barber Foods frozen raw chicken products and the subsequent recall. At least seven people in Minnesota and Wisconsin are sick in one outbreak after consuming this product. Another outbreak has sickened two people, but that is by a different strain of Salmonella bacteria. Check your freezer to see if you have any of the recalled products. Another MN Salmonella Outbreak: Raw Tuna

The Minnesota Department of Health has announced that two Minnesota residents sickened with salmonellosis are linked to frozen raw tuna. They are part of a larger national outbreak that was linked to spicy tuna rolls purchased at a grocery store and workplace cafeteria. The outbreak strain of Salmonella was found in sealed bags of frozen raw tuna from the lot used to make the spicy tuna rolls eaten by one of the patients. This tuna was packaged in frozen, vacuum-sealed bags without a brand name. The labels identify the product: lot number 68568 and Indonesia as the country of origin. Minnesota Hit Hard by Barber Foods Chicken Salmonella Outbreak

Most of the Salmonella cases linked to recalled Barber Foods frozen raw breaded stuffed chicken products have been in Minnesota, even though the products were sold nationwide. At least five people in that state have been sickened by the Barber Foods chicken products; another outbreak with a different Salmonella strain has also been reported in Minnesota. Using the multiplier of 30.3 for Salmonella outbreaks, since these illnesses are so underreported, means that more than 200 people could be sick just in Minnesota. CDC Updates Barber Foods Chicken Salmonella Outbreak

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated their investigation into the two Salmonella Enteritidis outbreaks in Minnesota and Wisconsin. One of the outbreaks is linked to Barber Foods frozen, raw, chicken products. In one outbreak, six people infected with this pathogenic bacteria are from Minnesota (5) and Wisconsin (1). Two persons have been hospitalized. In the other, three people infected with a different Salmonella strain in Minnesota have been reported. Two of those people have been hospitalized. Illness onset dates range from April 5, 2015 to June 23, 2015. No new illnesses have been reported since July 8, 2015.
