Precut Melon Linked to Salmonella Outbreak Sold in More States: AL, CA, FL, KS, MD, MN, NE, ND, SD, and TN; Lawsuits Filed

The FDA just stated that there are more states where precut melon and fresh-cut melon products linked to a Salmonella Adelaide outbreak were sold. They were also sold in Alabama, California, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Tennessee. That means the states that received these products include Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Two People in South Dakota, One in Nebraska, and One in Minnesota Sickened in Fareway Chicken Salad Salmonella Outbreak

The large Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak linked to Fareway chicken salad has sickened more than 100 people in Iowa. But there are also ill persons in other states. That chicken salad, made by Triple T Specialty Meats, has now been recalled. One person in Nebraska has been sickened, according to Leah Bucco-White, Public Information Officer of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. That person was hospitalized  because their illness was so serious. And two people in South Dakota are being investigated, according to Derrick Haskins, Communication Director of the South Dakota Department of Health; they may be associated with this outbreak. Salmonella Lawyers File Two Lawsuits Against Fareway Stores in Iowa

Two Salmonella lawsuits have been filed by Pritzker Hageman against Fareway Stores in the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak linked to recalled chicken salad. Both of the patients live in Iowa, where most of the illnesses in this outbreak have occurred. The FDA now says that the salad was made by Triple T Specialty Meats of Ackley, Iowa. The outbreak has sickened more than 100 people in Iowa alone. One person in Minnesota is also sick; there is a confirmed case in Nebraska, and there are reports of people sick in South Dakota and Illinois. Fareway operates 118 stores across the midwest. The Iowa Department of Public Health just published information about case counts in the Fareway chicken salad Salmonella outbreak. As of noon Friday, February 16, 2016, there are 28 confirmed cases and 66 probable cases os Salmonella Typhimurium in Iowa. According to some news reports, one person in Martin county in Minnesota is also sick. The confirmed case definition is "Persons with Salmonella Typhimurium (confirmed or visual match to Pattern JPXX01.0275) with illness onset since January 1, 2018 reporting consumption of chicken salad from Fareway (any store) in the 7 days prior to illness onset." USDA Issues Alert About Salmonella in Fareway Chicken Salad Sold in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and South Dakota

The USDA has issued a public health alert about Fareway chicken salad that may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The Iowa Department of Health issued a warning earlier this week about a Salmonella outbreak linked to that product in that specific state. The feds jumped in yesterday, stating that the product was also sold at all Fareway stores in Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The product is varying weights of "Fareway Chicken Salad that sold sold in plastic deli containers with a Fareway store label. The product was made between December 15, 2017 and February 13, 2018.
