Rong Shing Trading NY Inc. of Brooklyn, New York is recalling Xi Zhi Liang Fruit Jelly Cups because they may pose a choking hazard. Small jelly cups containing konjac powder have been implicated in choking deaths of children in the past. These small konjac powder jelly cups are under FDA import alert 35-15 and are not permitted to be imported into the United States. We don't know if the cups themselves are a problem, or if parts or the lid comes off. No incidents of consumers choking have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Playtex Recalls Children’s Plates and Bowls for Choking Hazard
Playtex is recalling Children's PLaytex plates and bowls for a possible choking hazard. The clear plastic layer over the graphics on these products can peel or bubble from the surface of the plates and bowls. Playtex has received 372 reports of the clear plastic layer bubbling or peeling. There are 11 reports of the detached clear plastic found in children's mouths. And there have been four reports of choking on a piece of the clear plastic layer. The plates have printed designs on them, including cars, construction scenes, giraffes, princesses, superheroes, and more. Golf Ball Materials Prompt Recall of Frozen Hash Browns
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced over the weekend that McCain Foods USA, Inc. has recalled its “Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns” product because it may contain extraneous golf ball materials. McCain Foods (US) is the American division of McCain Foods Limited, the largest manufacturer of frozen potato foods in the world. According to McCain Foods USA, the potatoes used in the frozen hash brown products were possibly contaminated with golf ball parts during their harvest. Kraft Expands Recall of American Cheese for Choking Hazard
The Kraft Heinz Company is expanding the voluntary recall of individually-wrapped American cheese slices because a thin strip of the film may remain adhered to the slice after the wrapper is removed. This could potentially cause a choking hazard. There have been twelve consumer complaints about this product, including five reports of consumers choking in connection with the packaging issue. McDonald’s Recalls Hello Kitty Whistles for Choking Hazard
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), McDonald's is recalling Hello Kitty Birthday Lollipop whistles because parts of the product can detach, posing choking and aspiration hazards to young children. About 2.3 million of these products were distributed in the United States, and 200,000 were distributed in Canada. Two children coughed out pieces of the whistle they sucked into their mouths. One child needed medical attention. The recalled whistles are red and were included in a plastic Hello Kitty figurine holding a pink heart-shaped lollipop. Plum Organics Recalls Little Cremes for Choking Hazard
Plum Organics is recalling its Little Cremes organic rice milk snacks line after it was found the product may have the potential to be a choking hazard. The small, bite-size snack pieces are supposed to soften in a child's mouth in less than 20 seconds so they are easy to swallow. But some pieces took significantly longer than 20 seconds to soften, making them a potential choking hazard. There have been reports of injuries and complaints from consumers. iDevices Food Thermometers Recalled for Ingestion Hazard
The Consumer Products Safety Commission is recalling iDevices cooking thermometer probes because the plastic insulator inside the stainless steel probe is not heat resistant. The plastic can melt and fall into the food, making it an ingestion hazard. The recall is for all Pro Ambient Temperature Probes and Pro Meat Probes manufactured from May 2014 through June 2014. The probes were sold separately as an accessory for the iGrill, iGrill2, iGrillmini grilling thermometers and the Kitchen Thermometer and Kitchen Thermometer mini cooking thermometers. Reed and Barton Recall Baby Utensils for Choking Hazard
Reed and Barton is recalling about 4,000 baby forks and spoons because the pink coloring on the bunny's ears can come off. This poses choking and ingestion hazards. No injuries have been reported to date, although one consumer reported that the pink coloring came off the flatware. The flatware is from the Gingham Bunny Flatware Collection. It is sold as the infant feeding spoon, in a fork and spoon set, and in a three piece set which is comprised of the feeding spoon with a bib and bowl.
