Recall of Sportmix Dog and Cat Food For High Aflatoxin Levels Expanded

The recall of Sportmix dog and cat food for high aflatoxin levels has been expanded to include more products. Midwestern Pet Foods of Evansville, Indiana is expanding the December 30, 2020 recall to include all dog and cat food products that are made with corn and that were manufactured at the company's Chickasha Operations Facility within a certain expiration date range. The corn used to make these foods has aflatoxin levels that exceed acceptable limits. The recalled products now include all those that expire on or before July 9, 2020, depicted as 07/09/22 in the date code that is stamped on the label. Midwestern Pet Foods of Evansville, Indiana is recalling Sportmix Dog and Cat Food in different varieties because they contain levels of Aflatoxin, which can be deadly to pets, that are over acceptable limits. These products were sold nationally to online distributors and to retail stores. Some illnesses and deaths of dogs have been reported in association with some lots of Sportmix High Energy. No cat or human illnesses have been reported to the company. Aflatoxin is a toxin produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus, which grows on corn and other grains that are used to make pet food. Albright's Chicken Recipe for Dogs is being recalled because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. This food is a raw food. One animal is sick, but no human illnesses have been reported to the company to date. Sixty seven cases are recalled. This product can make people sick if they don't thoroughly wash their hands after contact with the food, or if their dog sheds the bacteria and the person has contact with the dog. Sunshine Mills Pet Foods Recalled For Elevated Aflatoxin Levels

Three different brands of Sunshine Mills pet foods are being recalled for elevated aflatoxin levels. Aflatoxin is a mold that can be harmful to pets if consumed in large quantities. No problems or issues have been reported to the company to date in connection with this issue. The potential for aflatoxin levels above the acceptable limit was discovered by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. They found elevated levels in a single 4-pound bag of one lot of one of these products. IcelandicPlus LLC is voluntarily recalling Whole Capelin Fish Pet Treats for possible botulism contamination because the product exceeds FDA size restrictions for uneviscerated fish. This could use severe illness or death in both animals eating the treats and the people who handle them. The FDA regulations are based on the fact that that salt-cured, dried, or uneviscerated fish larger than 5 inches have been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning in people between 1981 and 1987 and again in 1991. The FDA is cautioning pet owners not to feed their animals one lot of Aunt Jeni's Frozen Raw Pet Food because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. That product is Aunt Jeni's Home Made All-Natural Raw Turkey Dinner Dog Food, sold in 5 pound (2.3 kg) packages. The lot number on the product is 175331, and the use by date is NOV2020. In the notice, the FDA states, "FDA is issuing this alert because this lot of Aunt Jeni’s Home Made frozen raw pet food represents a serious threat to human and animal health. TDBBS is voluntarily recalling two pig ear pet treat products that were sold through Amazon.com for possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall of TDBBS pig ears. The two pig ear pet treat products are USA Thick Pig Ear 8 Pack and USA Thick Pig Ear 20 Pack. This recall is the result of routine sampling conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. The sample bag tested positive for Salmonella, which triggered the recall.
