Los Corrales Pork Carnitas Suspect in Kenosha Salmonella Outbeak

Pork carnitas from Los Corrales grocery store in Kenosha, Wis. are suspected in Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 20 people, according to a report by WISN news.  Small children were among those who became so ill they were hospitalized. Some of those who were sickened reported buying and eating pork carnitas on Mother's Day, May 10, before they became seriously ill. The Kenosha County Health Department is working with the Wisconsin Department of Health on the outbreak. The meat counter at the store has been closed for an indefinite period of time while the investigation continues. Salmonella poisoning causes vomiting and diarrhea that can be bloody. Symtoms, which usually appear between six and 72 hours after exposure can last for a week. Wisconsin Salmonella Outbreak May be Associated with Meat

According to WISN 12 News, the Salmonella outbreak in Kenosha, Wisconsin may be associated with meat from a local grocery store called Los Corrales. At least 20 people have been sickened in this outbreak so far. All of the patients said they ate meat products from that store and then got sick. Officials are investigating this outbreak, interviewing patients, and conducting inspections and collecting samples. The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and nausea. Most people get sick within eight to seventy-two hours of exposure, and most recover within a week. California Salmonella Outbreak Associated with Raw Sushi

A Salmonella outbreak in southern California has sickened at least 25 people. Eighteen cases are confirmed, and seven others are suspected. Five people have been hospitalized in this outbreak. Officials believe the outbreak may be linked to raw tuna in sushi. Ventura County Health Department released information to the media late Monday night. Windmill Winery AZ Salmonella Outbreak: 38 Sick

The Salmonella outbreak at Windmill Winery in Florence, Arizona has now sickened at least 38 people, according to Pinal County public health officials. The outbreak is linked to two events held at that venue on March 18 and 19, 2015. At least four people have been hospitalized in this outbreak. The catering operation, called Kiss the Chef, Catering, that provided the food was operating illegally, according to authorities. Thomas Schyer, director of the Pinal County Public Health Services District said, "the kitchen was not authorized to be cooked in." In addition, the winery operators had exceeded their legally allowable level of food preparation. Minnesota Salmonella Outbreak in 2014 Linked to Chicken Kiev

A Salmonella enteritidis outbreak in 2014 in Minnesota was linked to Antioch Farms Chicken Kiev from the Aspen Foods Division of Koch Foods. At least six people were sickened in this outbreak. Illness onset dates ranged from August 17, 2014 to September 27, 2014. Among the six patients, one was hospitalized, and no deaths were reported. All of the patients ate Aspen Foods Chicken Kiev before they got sick. Samples of the product collected by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture tested positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella. The product was recalled on October 24, 2014. Salmonella Outbreak at X10 Restaurant in Dalhart TX Sickens 64

The Texas State Health Department states that there are 64 confirmed cases of Salmonella food poisoning in Dalhart, most from the X10 Texas Wood Fired Grill restaurant (otherwise known as 10 in Texas). Twelve additional cases have been reported since the restaurant voluntarily closed after illnesses were reported. Food poisoning attorney Fred Pritzker, who underwrites Food Poisoning Bulletin and has won millions for injured clients, said, "Most large food poisoning outbreaks are tied to restaurants. Unfortunately, many food workers do not get paid sick leave and are not properly trained in food safety skills by management. Outbreaks such as this one are not uncommon." Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Wonton Foods Sprouts Sickened 115

A Salmonella outbreak linked to Wonton Foods bean sprouts sickened 115 people in 12 states in 2014. The outbreak, which was declared over in January 2015, was traced back to the Wonton Foods facility. Traceback investigations found that there were five clusters of illnesses initially, in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont, but the outbreak spread as time went on. Wonton Foods was the only supplier in common of bean sprouts sold to restaurants where ill persons ate before becoming sick. Wonton Foods agreed to clean their facility and destroy any remaining product in their possession. The sprouts are most likely no longer available for purchase or consumption since they have a maximum shelf life of about two weeks. Salmonella Outbreak at GA Centennial High School in 2014 Sickened 150

The 2014 Salmonella outbreak at at Centennial High School Sports Banquet in Fulton County, Georgia sickened up to 150 people. An analysis of this outbreak was conducted by Caroline Stamatakis as part of a field investigation report by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. Seventy-one of the 200 attendees were surveyed after the outbreak. Fifty-six probable cases and 13 controls were identified. Onset of symptoms were from December 8 to December 10, 2014. The most common symptoms were headache, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, body aches, and chills. The average illness length was about 5 days. Salmonella Lawsuit from X 10 in Texas Outbreak in Dalhart

A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a woman who contracted Salmonella after eating at the X 10 in Texas Wood Fired Grill in Dalhart. The woman, whose illness became so severe that her kidneys were failing, was hospitalized for a number of days. She is one of 59 people who Texas health officials say are part of an outbreak. The popular restaurant, located about 90 miles northwest of Amarillo, voluntarily closed for a cleaning after illnesses were reported and was cleared by the health department to reopen. Health authorities, who say no new cases occurred after the cleaning, are still trying to determine the source of the outbreak. Salmonella Outbreak at TN Prison Linked to Tyson Chicken

A Salmonella Heidelberg outbreak in 2013 at a Tennessee correctional facility that was linked to mechanically separated Tyson chicken sickened nine people. Twenty-two percent of those sickened were hospitalized; no deaths were reported. All of the ill persons were incarcerated at a single correctional facility in the state. Traceback and other investigations found that mechanically separated chicken produced by Tyson Foods was the source of the 2013 outbreak. Mechanically separated chicken is a paste-like meat product that is made by forcing meat through a sieve to separate bone from the edible part.
