Famous Anthony’s Hepatitis A Virginia Outbreak Grows to 35 Sick

The Famous Anthony's Hepatitis A Virginia outbreak has now sickened 35 people and hospitalized more than 20 of those patients, according to news reports. The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts announced on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 that the cases have more than doubled over the last two weeks. The illnesses are linked to three Famous Anthony's restaurant locations in Roanoke. The outbreak was first reported to the public on September 24, 2021. One employee had worked at the three locations (on Grandin Road, Williamson Road, and Crystal Spring Avenue) while infectious. Famous Anthony’s Virginia Hepatitis A Outbreak Increases to 14 Sick

The Famous Anthony's Virginia Hepatitis A outbreak case count has increased to 14 from 10, according to news reports. Dr. Cynthia Morrow with the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts talked to the press about the outbreak during Zoom meetings on September 28, 2021. The outbreak began when a restaurant employee, who worked at three of the chain's restaurants in Roanoke, Virginia, was diagnosed with the viral illness. There is no ongoing concern about eating at the chain's locations, according to Dr. Morrow, because the employee worked there in late August 2021. A potential Famous Anthony's hepatitis A outbreak in Roanoke, Virginia has sickened at least 10 people, according to news reports and the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts. An employee who tested positive for the virus worked while infectious at three Famous Anthony's restaurants that are located on Grandin Road, Williamson Road, and Crystal Spring Avenue in that city. All ten patients were hospitalized. Officials think the case count will increase. The employee worked there between August 10 and August 26, 2021. That means that it is too late for anyone who was exposed there during that time frame to get the hepatitis A or immune globulin vaccine. A frozen mango hepatitis A outbreak in Canada has sickened at least three people in two provinces. A recall has been issued for Nature's Touch Frozen Food, Compliments, Irresistibles, and President's Choice brand frozen mangoes. The outbreak is ongoing and more illnesses have been reported to Public Health Canada. This is not the first time produce has been linked to a hepatitis A outbreak. In February 2020, a hepatitis A outbreak linked to Fresh Thyme blackberries sickened 20 people in seven states. In the United States, the FDA launched a food sampling program for hepatitis A in frozen berries after two outbreaks, in 2013 and 2016, sickened more than 300 Americans. Gaston County Hepatitis A Outbreak Warning in North Carolina

Officials are warning the public about a Gaston County hepatitis A outbreak that may have started in the homeless and drug using population but now has spread to the general public and includes some people who were sickened after eating at food businesses. The Gaston County Health Department in North Carolina urged vaccination against this virus last month. According to the Gaston Gazette, a huge spike in cases has occurred in just the first three months of 2021. There were just 33 cases in the county from 2018 to 2020, but more than 120 cases of hepatitis A have been diagnosed this year so far. Hepatitis A Outbreak Associated With Señor Moose in Seattle Sickens 3, Hospitalizes 1

A hepatitis A outbreak is associated with the Señor Moose restaurant in Seattle, Washington. At  least 3 people are sick; one of those patients is hospitalized, according to a press release issued by King County Public Health. Consumers who allegedly ate at that restaurant have been experiencing jaundice, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, which are the typical symptoms of this viral illness. That restaurant is located at 5242 Leary Avenue Northwest in Seattle. Public Health started learning of cases on April 15, 2020. Hepatitis A Employee at the Space at Factoria or Fin & Brew Peekskill, NY

A hepatitis A positive food worker at The Space at Factoria or Fin & Brew in Peekskill, New York worked while sick this month, according to a news release by the Westchester County Health Department. Factoria is an event space, and Fin & Brew shares an ice machine with that space. Anyone who ate at the private event at Factoria on Saturday, February 15, 2020 may have been exposed. Anyone who ate at Fin & Brew on Sunday, February 16 or Wednesday, February 19, 2020 also could have been exposed because of the shared equipment. The Health Department has been contacting patrons to tell them about this possible exposure. FDA Weighs In On Fresh Market Blackberries Hepatitis A Outbreak

The FDA has published its final report on its investigation into the Fresh Market Blackberries hepatitis A outbreak. The illnesses are linked to fresh, conventionally grown (non organic) blackberries purchased from Fresh Thyme Farmers Market and Woodman's Market grocery stores. As of February 19, 2020, 20 people in 7 states were sickened. Since the last update on December 12, 2019, two more illnesses have been reported. One of those patients lives in Pennsylvania, a state that had not include in the case count. The case count by state is: Indiana (3), Michigan (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), Nebraska (7), Pennsylvania (1), and Wisconsin (6). The last illness onset date was November 15, 2019. A hepatitis A outbreak is associated with 555 East American Steakhouse in downtown Long Beach, California, according to the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services. Several cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed in people who ate at that restaurant on or around December 24, 2019. The notice from the health department did not state the number of patients, their ages, or illness onset dates. Unfortunately, it's now too late for those who may have been exposed to the virus to get the immune globulin or hepatitis A vaccine that can protect them. The FDA has released information on the Fresh Thyme Woodman's blackberries hepatitis A outbreak that has sickened 18 people in 6 states, including Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. The outbreak is potentially linked to fresh, conventional (non-organic) blackberries sold at the grocery stores Fresh Thyme Farmers Market and Woodman's Market in the upper midwest.   The case counts were updated to include 18 illnesses  from 16 from the last update on December 3, 2019 , with the most recent illness onset date on November 15, 2019.
