The FDA has confirmed the presence of cyclospora in a salad mix produced by Fresh Express and sold to McDonald's. McDonald's salads are a possible source of a cyclospora outbreak that has sickened at least 286 people in 15 states and has hospitalized 11. The number of illnesses has not been updated in this most recent update. The analysis was completed in July 26, 2018 using a "new laboratory method." The FDA set up a multidisciplinary workgroup in 2015 to privatize the development, validation, and implementation of a method for detecting cyclospora in fresh produce. The cyclospora outbreak that is linked to McDonald's salads keeps on growing. Now at least 286 people in 15 states are sick. Eleven people have been hospitalized; no deaths have been reported. That is an increase of 123 more patients in the last week. McDonald's cyclospora lawsuits have been and will continue to be filed on behalf people who are sick through no fault of their own. Attorneys File First Iowa McDonald’s Cyclospora Lawsuit in Multistate Outbreak
Attorneys at the law firm of Pritzker Hageman have filed the first Iowa McDonald's cyclospora lawsuit on behalf of a client who was sickened after he ate at one of the fast food chain's restaurants at 1220 Jeffreys Drive in Osceola, Iowa in late June, 2018. The law firm has also filed a complaint on behalf of a woman in Illinois who was sickened in the same outbreak. There is a large ongoing multistate cyclospora outbreak linked to McDonald's salads. The McDonald's cyclospora lawsuit was filed in Iowa on July 18, 2018 in the Iowa District Court in Clarke County. McDonald’s Cyclospora Outbreak Grows to 163 Sick; Lawsuits Are Filed
The McDonald's cyclospora outbreak that is linked to that chain's salads has grown to include 163 sick, according to the FDA. That is an increase of more than 100 patients in the last five days. Those sickened live in 10 states, an increase of three states since July 15, 2018. Three people have been hospitalized. All of these cases are lab-confirmed. The FDA is working with McDonald's to try to identify the common ingredient in the salad that is potentially contaminated. Patients report eating a variety of McDonald's salads before they got sick. McDonald’s Cyclospora Attorneys File Lawsuit in Illinois; More Lawsuits May Follow
McDonald's cyclospora attorneys at Pritzker Hageman have filed a lawsuit against the fast food chain on behalf of a woman who was sickened after eating a Southwest Chicken Salad from the restaurant located at 400 East Plaza Drive in Carterville, Illinois. The lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. Their client would regularly order that salad from McDonald's. On or about June 25, 2018, she began suffering from stomach pain, headaches, nausea, and diarrhea. Her symptoms soon became debilitating and she sought medical help. CDC Weighs In On Cyclospora Outbreak Linked to McDonald’s Salads
The CDC is weighing in on the cyclospora outbreak linked to McDonald's salads. On July 12, 2018, the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Public Health reported an increase of cyclosporiasis cases among people who ate salads sold at McDonald's fast food chain restaurants. The government has also received reports of sick people in Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin who may be part of this McDonald's cyclospora outbreak since then. A total of 61 people are sick in seven states. The case count by state is: Minnesota (3), Iowa (16), Wisconsin (2), South Dakota (2), Nebraska (2), Missouri (7), and Illinois (29). A McDonald's cyclospora outbreak that is "likely linked" to the fast food chain's salads has sickened at lest 61 people in 7 states. Two people have been hospitalized because they are so sick. This outbreak is probably not linked to the other current cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled Del Monte Vegetable trays that has sickened 227 people in the upper Midwest, but public health officials are investigating. McDonald’s Salads Associated With Cyclospora Outbreak in Illinois and Iowa; Lawsuits Possible
Another Cyclospora outbreak has been reported by government officials. This time, 15 people in Iowa and 90 people in Illinois are sick in this cyclospora outbreak. Some of those patients are ill with the parasitic infection after allegedly eating McDonald's salads from the fast food restaurant chain. These illnesses in this cyclospora outbreak started occurring in late June and early July in Iowa, and starting in mid-May in Illinois. The Madison County Health Department in Kentucky is investigating a single case of hepatitis A in a food worker who worked while infectious at the McDonald's restaurant on Glades Road in Berea, Kentucky. Anyone who ate there on March 23, 2018 should contact their doctor about this issue. Unfortunately, it's too late for anyone to get a hepatitis A or immune globulin vaccination, since they are only effective if given within two weeks of exposure. It's been three weeks, or 21 days, since the possible exposure. People may already be sick, and could still get sick for the next month, since the illness manifests two weeks to 50 days after exposure to the virus. Lab Tests On 60 McDonald’s Employees In Salmonella Outbreak
The owners of the McDonald's franchise in Bloomington, Ill. that has been linked to a Salmonella outbreak are paying for lab testing on 60 employees and the wages of all employees scheduled to work while the restaurant remains closed during the investigation, a spokeswoman for the McLean County Health Department told Food Poisoning Bulletin. During their investigation, health officials found no contamination on food or environmental surfaces, but were able to determine from interviews that the source of the outbreak could have come from an employee or employees who worked their shifts while they were sick, she said.
