Fresh Express Salad Cyclospora Outbreak Has Sickened 509 in 8 States

According to the FDA, the Fresh Express salad cyclospora outbreak has  sickened at least 509 people in 8 states as of July 8, 2020. That's an increase of more than 300 new cases since the last update on June 29, 2020. Thirty-three people are hospitalized because they are so ill. There is also a cyclospora outbreak in Canada, with exposure to certain Fresh Express salad products as a likely source of these infections. The case count by state is: Iowa (160), Illinois (151), Kansas (5), Minnesota (63), Missouri (46), Nebraska (48), North Dakota (6), and Wisconsin (30). The illness onset dates rate from 5/11/2020 to 7/1/2020. The recall of Fresh Express salad products in Canada for possible cyclospora contamination has been updated to include the correct UPC numbers, package sizes, and expiration dates. No illnesses have been reported in Canada, but there is a cyclospora outbreak in the U.S. potentially linked to Fresh Express salads. All of the recalled products have a lot code beginning with “Z 177” or a lower number. They are all Fresh Express brand. The corrected numbers are labeled with a *. Jewel Osco Signature Farms Salad Recall For Cyclospora Updated

The recall of Jewel Osco Signature Farms salad for cyclospora contamination has been updated because the facility code in the original recall notice was incorrect. That code was "S5417", but it is actually "S5424." The salad was made by Fresh Express at their facility in Streamwood, Illinois. There is a multistate cyclospora outbreak potentially linked to this product and several other salads, all produced by Fresh Express, that were sold in states around the country. The states with illnesses are Iowa (74), Illinois (57), Kansas (1), Minnesota (25), Missouri (10), Nebraska (20), North Dakota (6), and Wisconsin (13). Hy Vee recalls more salads for possible cyclospora contamination after Fresh Express announced its recall of salads that contain lettuce, red cabbage, and carrot with its brand name. These twelve newly recalled Hy Vee salads are in addition to the 12 ounce Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad that was recalled last week. All expiation dates of the 13 recalled private label bagged salads are recalled. There is a multistate cyclospora outbreak that has sickened at least 206 people in eight midwestern states. Fresh Express Recalls Walmart Marketside Iceberg Salad For Cyclospora

Fresh Express is recalling some of its Walmart Marketside Iceberg Salads because it may be contaminated with the cyclospora parasite. A cyclospora outbreak linked to bagged salads has sickened at least 206 people in 8 states in the midwest. Fresh Express has been named by the FDA as the manufacturer of salads potentially linked to that outbreak. The recall is for all product codes of Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad that is sold in 12 and 24 ounce size packages. The best if used by dates on the packages are May 19, 2020 to July 4, 2020. They were distributed to select Walmart stores between June 1 and June 21, 2020 in Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The bagged salad cyclospora outbreak has been updated by the FDA. A new product has been added to the list of salads in the  outbreak: Walmart's Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad sold in 12 and 24 ounce sizes. The FDA has named Fresh Express as the producer of these salads. And there are now 206 people in 8 states sick in this outbreak. North Dakota has been added to the outbreak list. Fresh Express Southwest Chopped Kit Recalled For Allergens

Fresh Express Southwest Chopped Kit is being recalled because it contains wheat, soy, cashews, and coconut, four of the major food allergens. People who are allergic to those ingredients and those with celiac disease could have a serious allergic reaction if they eat this product. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date in connection with this issue. During a single production run, incorrect condiment packets were placed into the Southwest Chopped Kit bags. The recalled product is Fresh Express 11.5 ounce bags of Southwest Chopped Kit with production codes G163B10A and G163B10B, UPC number 0 71279 30602 5, and use-by date of June 29, 2020. Where Were Bagged Salads Linked to Cyclospora Outbreak Sold?

The first known cyclospora outbreak of the 2020 season in the U.S. linked to ALDI, Hy-Vee, and Jewel-Osco salads has sickened at least 122 people in 7 states, as of June 23, 2020. Nineteen people have been hospitalized. Where were those bagged salads linked to cyclospora illnesses sold? Are people in other states at risk? While there are illness in just seven of the twelve states where the salads were sold, people living in the states without an outbreak still need to discard those products and should monitor their health for the symptoms of cyclosporiasis if they ate them. Iowa Cyclospora Outbreak Linked to Bagged Salads Sickens at Least 54

The Iowa cyclospora outbreak linked to ALDI, Hy-Vee, and Jewel-Osco bagged gardens salads is the largest in the country with 54 sick, according to the Iowa Department of Health. The larger multistate outbreak has now sickened at least 122 people in 7 states. All of those bagged salads were recalled this week. They are Hy-Vee Garden Salad, ALDI Little Salad Bar Garden Salad, and Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Garden Salads. Illinois and Iowa are the only two states with cases linked to all three store brands, although Wisconsin may be added to that list.
