Scenic Fruit Frozen Strawberries Recalled in Hepatitis A Outbreak

Scenic Fruit Frozen Strawberries are being recalled due to a hepatitis A outbreak investigation, according to the FDA. Hepatitis A has not been detected on this product, but consumers should stop consuming the berries out of an abundance of caution.  The strawberries were sold to these stores: Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood, and PCC Community Markets, and are in frozen Organic Tropical Fruit Blend sold to Trader Joe’s. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that can cause serious complications and even liver failure in some people with pre-existing liver disease and immune system illnesses. Hepatitis A Outbreak Prompts Recall of Kirkland Strawberries

A hepatitis A outbreak has prompted the recall of Kirkland Signature Frozen Organic Strawberries sold at Costco stores in Los Angeles, Hawaii, and two San Diego business centers, according to the FDA. The FDA recall states that the recall is "due to an outbreak of hepatitis A illnesses." The recalling firm is California Splendor, Inc. of San Diego, California. The recall notice states that hepatitis A has not been detected on this product, but the recall is being issued out of an abundance of caution. There is a hepatitis A outbreak on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table, At least five people are sick in that outbreak. Kettle Classic Clam Chowder with Uncured Bacon is being recalled because it may contain foreign material in the form of hard sharp opaque plastic pieces. This poses a choking and mouth injury hazard. No injuries or adverse reactions have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this soup. The recalling firm is Ivar's Soup and Sauce Company of Mukilteo, Washington. About 14,968 sleeves are recalled. Costco Recalls Red Onions and Products For Possible Salmonella

Costco recalls red onions and products made with those onions for possible Salmonella contamination. There is a Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened almost 400 people in the U.S., but no illnesses have been reported to Costco in association with these recalled products to date. The first recall is for 10 pound bags of Onions 52 Jumbo Yellow Onions, Hartley's Best label that were sold between May 1, 2020 and August 2, 2020 in the Northwest region, Los Angeles region, and select San Diego region locations in California, along with Colorado and Utah. The onions were shipped to Costco between May 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020. More Frozen Berries Recalled For Hepatitis A; Townsend Farms, Costco

Townsend Farms has notified Costco that an FDA test found that a domestic conventional frozen blackberry product that was manufactured by Townsend Farms may be contaminated with hepatitis A.  The FDA issued a food safety alert about Kroger frozen blackberries and frozen berry medley for the same issue earlier this week. That alert has been updated with more information. Townsend Farms is the supplier for the Kroger frozen berry products and for the newly announced recalled product: frozen Kirkland Signature Three Berry Blend product sold by Costco. Salmonella Outbreak in Washington Linked to Costco Cucumbers; Lawsuits Possible

A Salmonella outbreak in Washington state has been linked to Costco cucumbers that were sold in those stores in August and September, 2018. At least six people are sick in this outbreak. The outbreak notice did not state whether or not anyone has been hospitalized, the patient age range, or when the illnesses began. It also did not name the strain of Salmonella that has sickened people. The case count by county is: King (1), Snohomish (1), Thurston (1), Yakima (2), and Pierce (1). All were sickened with the same strain of Salmonella bacteria. Five of the six people sickened said they bought and ate Costco cucumbers English cucumbers from various stores in the state. Salmonella Outbreak Associated with Service Deli at Costco in Issaquah, WA; Lawsuits Possible

A Salmonella outbreak is associated with the service deli at the Costco Wholesale Warehouse at 1801 10th Avenue North West in Issaquah, Washington, according to a press release issued by Seattle King County Health Department. At least seven people are sick in this outbreak. One person has been hospitalized. The service deli prepares and sells ready-to-eat foods, such as pork ribs, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, wraps, mac and cheese, poke, shrimp cocktail, and cilantro lime shrimp. Caito Foods Fresh Cut Melons Linked to Salmonella Outbreak in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and MIssouri

The FDA has released information about the multistate Salmonella Adelaide outbreak that is linked to precut melons. Fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut fruit medley products that contain any of these melons that were produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana are being recalled as a result of this outbreak. Those products were distributed from the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio.. Hepatitis A Exposure at Montebello Costco in LA, CA

A worker with hepatitis A may have contaminated butchered meat products cold at the Montebello Costco Wholesale store at 1345 North Montebello Boulevard, Montebello, California, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. This case is not related to the current large hepatitis A outbreak among the homeless in Southern California. Costco and Public Health are warning consumers that anyone who handled or consumed butchered meat from that location from October 22 through October 31, 2017, may be at "low risk" for hepatitis A. This warning does not affect any butchered meat products bought from other Costco locations.
