Red Onion Salmonella Outbreak Ends With 1,127 Sick

The red onion Salmonella outbreak ends, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with 1,127 sick in 48 states and 167 people hospitalized. While the outbreak is over, there is still risk to consumers because these onions could be in home pantries and freezers. That's an increase of 115 more patients and one more state, Oklahoma, since the last update on September 1, 2020. Canadian Red Onion Salmonella Outbreak Ends With 515 Sick

The Canadian red onion Salmonella outbreak has ended after sickening 515 people in seven provinces according to the Public Health Agency Canada. The outbreak is linked to Thomson International onions imported from the United States. There is a related outbreak ongoing in the U.S. that has sickened at least 1,012 people in 47 states, but the FDA and CDC have not updated that investigation since September 1, 2020. The case count in Canada by province is: British Columbia (121), Alberta (293), Saskatchewan (35), Manitoba (26), Ontario (14), Quebec (25) and Prince Edward Island (1). Status of Peach and Onion Salmonella Outbreaks in United States?

You may have forgotten about this by now, but what is the status of the peach and onion Salmonella outbreaks in the United States? Both of those items; Wawona peaches and Thomson International red onions, are linked to multistate outbreaks, and neither investigation has been updated by the CDC or FDA in weeks. The Salmonella Newport outbreak that is linked to red onions produced by Thomson International has sickened at least 1,012 people in 47 states. Canadian Red Onion Salmonella Outbreak Grows Again: No Change in U.S.

The Canadian red onion Salmonella outbreak has grown again, but there is no change in U.S. numbers. The United States outbreak has not been updated by the CDC or FDA since September 1, 2020, when that agency reported at least 1,021 sick in 47 states. Illnesses in both countries have a similar genetic fingerprint, which means they likely share a common source of infection. Both outbreaks have been linked to onions grown and exported by Thomson International of Bakersfield, California. Red, yellow, white, and sweet yellow onions have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada because of the way onions are grown and processed. That is and increase of 100 more illnesses since the last update on August 7, 2020. Forty-eight people have been hospitalized. This outbreak is linked to red onions that are imported from the United States, where there is a similar outbreak that has sickened at least 640 people in 43 states. The Salmonella Newport outbreak linked to red onions has sickened at least 640 people in 43 states and 239 people in Canada. Now there are secondary Salmonella onion recalls for products such as salsa, dips, and stir fry ingredients. We are keeping a running list of the onion recalls; now this list will help you keep track of recalled products made with those onions. Most, if not all, of these products were made with red onions, which are typically used raw because they are sweeter than regular onions. Murray’s Cheese Dips Recalled For Possible Salmonella

Murray's Cheese Dips and other dips sold at Fred Meyers, Frys, and Kroger stores, are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination because they may have been made with Onions 52 red, yellow, and white onions from Thomson International. There is a multistate Salmonella Newport outbreak linked to Thomson International onions, but each of the following five recall notices states, "No customer illnesses have been confirmed to date." The FDA is updating the red onion Salmonella outbreak recall information, since several companies and brands have recalled red, yellow, white, and sweet onions in association with this outbreak. Not all brands or companies have sold onions that are linked to the outbreak. The traceback investigation is ongoing but has identified Thomson International, Inc. of Bakersfield, California as a likely source of potentially contaminated red onions. Pacific Gold Red Onions and Yellow Onions Recalled For Salmonella

Pacific Gold Red Onions and Yellow Onions are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. There is a multistate Salmonella Newport outbreak linked to Thomson International and other  brands of red onions, but Progressive Produce, the company that produces the Pacific Gold brand of onions, has not received any reports of illnesses to date associated with these recalled items. The recalled onions were sold on the West Coast, at Trader Joe's (conventional red onions were sold sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah stores), and Ralph's (conventional yellow onions sold only in California stores). Costco Recalls Red Onions and Products For Possible Salmonella

Costco recalls red onions and products made with those onions for possible Salmonella contamination. There is a Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened almost 400 people in the U.S., but no illnesses have been reported to Costco in association with these recalled products to date. The first recall is for 10 pound bags of Onions 52 Jumbo Yellow Onions, Hartley's Best label that were sold between May 1, 2020 and August 2, 2020 in the Northwest region, Los Angeles region, and select San Diego region locations in California, along with Colorado and Utah. The onions were shipped to Costco between May 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020.
