California Hard Hit by JBS Tolleson Ground Beef Salmonella Outbreak

California has been hard hit by the ground beef Salmonella outbreak linked to a 12-million-pound recall. About one-quarter of all illnesses reported in this outbreak, 66 of the 246 total, have occurred in California. It's also the state with most grocery stores affected by the massive recall. The outbreak, which was announced on October 4, 2018, includes 246 people in 25 states, according to the latest update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fifty-nine people got so sick they need to be hospitalized. JBS Tolleson Ground Beef Recall Associated With Salmonella Outbreak Expands

JBS Tolleson ground beef is associated with a Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened at least 246 people in 25 states. The recall issued in association with that outbreak that was originally announced on October 4, 2018 has now doubled. An additional 5,156,076 pounds of raw beef products is recalled, for a total of 12,093,271 pounds. The raw, non-intact beef items were packaged on various dates ranging from July 26, 2018 to September 7, 2018. All of the recalled products have the establishment number "EST. 267" inside the USDA mark of inspection or somewhere else on the label. Swift Beef Recalls Ground Beef Products for Possible E. coli O157:H7

Swift Beef Company of Hyrum, Utah is recalling about 99,260 pounds of raw non-intact ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue. The products were made on October 24, 2018. Majestic Meat Company Recalls Ground Beef For Possible E. coli O157:H7

Majestic Meat Company of Salt Lake City, Utah is recalling about 532 pounds of ground  beef because it may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date in connection with this recall. The Majestic Meat Company ground beef, ground patties, and meatball produts that are being recalled were produced on November 8, 2018. At least 246 people in 25 states are now sick in the JBS Tolleson ground beef Salmonella outbreak. Fifty-nine of those patients have been hospitalized, which is 35% of ill persons. That's an increase of 126 more patients since the last update on October 23, 2018. There more states reported patients: Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Missouri. Ground Beef Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 30 in New Mexico; Lawsuits Possible

A ground beef Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 30 people in New Mexico, according to a notice published by the New Mexico Department of Health. State officials are working with the USDA and CDC on this outbreak. It's likely that these illnesses are part of a larger multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to JBS Tolleson ground beef. In the last CDC update, officials stated that 21 people in New Mexico were sick. The CDC has not updated their ground beef Salmonella outbreak investigation since October 23, 2018. Illnesses in New Mexico started being reported in late August. The average illness duration among these patients is 13 days, which is much higher than the 4 to 7 days that a typical Salmonella infection lasts. Salmonella Newport Outbreak Linked to Ground Beef Grows; Lawsuits Possible

The Salmonella Newport outbreak linked to JBS Tolleson ground beef has ground to include 120 people sick in 22 states. Thirty-three people have been hospitalized, which is a very high percentage for this pathogen. Sixty-three more people were added to the outbreak total since the last update on October 4, 2018. Six more states were added to the outbreak total: Hawaii, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington. Illness onset dates ranged from August 5, 2018 to September 28, 2018. Ill persons range in age from less than one year to 77. Ground Beef Salmonella Outbreak Prompts Food Safety Advice

The multistate Salmonella Newport outbreak that is linked to recalled JBS Tolleson ground beef has prompted the Wyoming Department of Health to issue food safety advice about handling this food. The ground beef Salmonella outbreak is just one in a long line of food poisoning illness outbreaks linked to this product, including the deadly E. coli O26 outbreak linked to Cargill ground beef. Three people in Wyoming are sick in the JBS Tolleson ground beef Salmonella outbreak. And almost 7,000,000 pounds of ground beef has been recalled. More Retail Stores Announced in JBS Tolleson Ground Beef Salmonella Newport Outbreak Recall

The USDA has added more stores to the retail distribution list in the JBS Tolleson ground beef Salmonella Newport outbreak. The case count still stands at 57 people sick in 16 states' more than 30% of those patients have been hospitalized because they are so ill. Almost 7 million pounds of ground beef and ground beef products have been recalled. These products were sold in some nationwide chain stores and in Alabama, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, South Carolina, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Arizona and Colorado Hit Hard in JBS Tolleson Ground Beef Salmonella Outbreak

The states of Arizona and Colorado are hit the hardest in the JBS Tolleson ground beef Salmonella Newport outbreak. There are at least 57 people sick in that outbreak. Arizona has 15 sick, while Colorado has 12 sick. Almost seven million pounds of ground beef has been recalled in this outbreak. JBS Tolleson is located in Tolleson, Arizona. The ground beef products, which range from beefburgers to ground beef, all have the establishment number "EST. 267" inside the USDA mark of inspection.Epidemiologic and traceback information indicates that ground beef produced by JBS TOlleson is a likely source of this outbreak.
