Kirkwood Breaded Stuffed Chicken Salmonella Outbreak Number 4 of 2021

The Kirkwood breaded stuffed chicken Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak is the number four multistate food poisoning outbreak of 2021, with at least 36 people sickened in 11 states. Twelve people were hospitalized because they were so ill. The patient case count by state was: Arizona (4), Arkansas (1), Connecticut (1), Illinois (10), Indiana (4), Michigan (1), Minnesota (4), Nevada (1), New York (7), Ohio (1), and Oklahoma (2). Illness onset dates ranged from February 21, 2021 to August 16, 2021. Patients ranged in age from one year to 83. Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Kirkwood Breaded Stuffed Chicken Ends

The Salmonella outbreak linked to Kirkwood breaded stuffed chicken produced by Serenade Foods has ended, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  In all, 36 people in 11 states have been sickened. Twelve people were hospitalized. The patient case count by state is: Arizona (4), Arkansas (1), Connecticut (1), Illinois (10), Indiana (4), Michigan (1), Minnesota (4), Nevada (1), New York (7), Ohio (1), and Oklahoma (2). The new cases since the last update on August 11, 2021 are from Arkansas, Ohio, and Oklahoma. The case count increased by eight patients since that last update. Raw Breaded Stuffed Chicken Salmonella Outbreak Over According to USDA

The raw breaded stuffed chicken Salmonella outbreak is over, according to the USDA Outbreak Investigation Table, even though the outbreak has not been declared over on the CDC's investigation notice. The CDC investigation has not been updated since August 11, 2021. As of August 10, 2021, 28 people in eight states have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Enteritidis. Illness onset dates ranged from February 21, 2021 to June 28, 2021. Four in Minnesota Sickened in Breaded Chicken Salmonella Outbreak

There are four in Minnesota sickened in a breaded chicken Salmonella outbreak, with at least 13 others in five other states. Eight people have been hospitalized because they are so sick. Minnesota played a large part in potentially solving this outbreak. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture collected five raw frozen breaded stuffed chicken products from a grocery store where an ill person shopped. The outbreak strain was found in two samples of Kirkwood's Chicken Cordon Bleu. There may be more brands of these types of products involved in this outbreak, since patients have told public health investigators that they purchased and ate many different brands of raw frozen breaded stuffed chicken products from multiple stores. New Raw Breaded Stuffed Chicken Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 17

A new raw breaded stuffed chicken Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 17 people in six states, according to a notice posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eight people have been hospitalized because they are so sick, which is very high for a Salmonella outbreak. The typical hospitalization rate for this type of infection is just 20%. The USDA has issued a vague public health alert warning consumers about this type of product and stating safe cooking instructions.  The warning covers items that are labeled "chicken cordon bleu," "chicken with broccoli and cheese," or "chicken Kiev." Largest Multistate Food Poisoning Outbreaks 2015: #11, Frozen Chicken

The 11th largest multistate food poisoning outbreak of 2015 was  a Salmonella outbreak linked to raw, frozen breaded chicken entrees produced by Aspen Foods, a division of Koch Foods, both based in Chicago. The outbreak, which sickened 5 people, hospitalizing two of them, was associated with frozen chicken entrees including Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken a la Kiev or Chicken Broccoli and Cheese, sold nationwide under the brand names Acclaim, Antioch Farms, Buckley Farms, Centrella Signature, Chestnut Farms, Family Favorites, Kirkwood, Koch Foods, Market Day, Oven Cravers, Rose, Rosebud Farm, Roundy’s, Safeway Kitchens, Schwan’s, Shaner’s, Spartan and Sysco.
