There are a "number of reports" of acute non-viral hepatitis in the state of Nevada that are associated with Real Water brand alkaline water. The official case count remains at five sick, with all five patients hospitalized. All of those patients live in Nevada. The FDA now knows that Real Water alkaline water is still being offered for sale through online retailers. The government is trying to locate any remaining product so they are not available for consumers to purchase. FDA has updated its Real Water alkaline water hepatitis outbreak investigation with more information. The latest update, which is not dated, states, "Given a lack of cooperation by the firm, FDA investigators have been unable to complete investigations at the "Real Water" Inc. facilities in Henderson, Nevada and Mesa, Arizona and have not been provided with any records. As a result, on March 23, FDA issued a Demand for Records under section 414 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act." Real Water alkalized water is being recalled because it is associated with a non-viral hepatitis outbreak that has sickened at least five people in Nevada. The consumption of Real Water brand alkaline water is the only common link identified among all of the cases so far. This brand of water is owned by Real Water, Inc. of Mesa, Arizona. Real Water Non-Viral Hepatitis Illnesses Investigated by FDA
The FDA is investigating Real Water non-viral hepatitis illnesses, according to an outbreak investigation notice. The CDC and the Southern Nevada Health District are aiding in the investigation. On March 13, the FDA was told by the Southern Nevada Health District about five cases of acute non-viral hepatitis in infants and children that occurred in November 2020 with an unknown cause. Those cases resulted in acute liver failure. All five patients were hospitalized and have since recovered. All of these children live in Nevada. The last illness onset date was November 29, 2020.
