But eggs were the biggest culprit in 2025, causing three of the 10 outbreaks and sickening at least 302 people. Salmonella caused six of the 10 outbreaks. Some of these outbreaks were deadly. It's time for the Top 10 Outbreaks of 2025. Number 10 is the Sweet Cream Pastries Salmonella outbreak that sickened at least 18 people in seven states. Because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) did not release any information about this outbreak, we do not know the case count by state or the patient age range. The pastries were imported from Italy. The states where the patients lived were California, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. An outbreak linked to these products has been reported in Canada, where at least 69 are sick in five provinces, with 22 hospitalizations. The pastries were manufactured in Italy and exported into the United States by Importations Piu Che Dolci Inc. of Quebec, Canada. Patients have been reported from these states: California, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
