Now 30 Sick in Carnicerias Guanajuato Salmonella Outbreak

There are now 30 sick in Carniceria Guanajuato Salmonella outbreak in Chicago, according to the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and news reports. That is an increase of 10 more patients since the first notice of the outbreak was issued on September 15, 2023. The grocery store, which also houses a taqueria, is located at 3140 North California Avenue in Avondale in Chicago. At that time, the CDPH said that 10 people were hospitalized. We do not know if any of the 10 new patients have been hospitalized. And CDPH said that there are probably more who are sick. In fact, public health officials use a multiplier for Salmonella outbreaks of 30.2, which means that there are usually 30 times more patients in a typical outbreak than are reported to public health departments. A Carniceria Guanajuato Salmonella outbreak in Chicago has sickened at least 20 people and 10 of those patients are hospitalized, according to the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). That grocery store, which houses a taqueria, is located at 3140 North California in Chicago, Illinois. Those sickened at prepared food at either the taqueria or the prepared foods section of the grocery store. Carniceria Guanajuato voluntarily closed on September 8, 2023 and is cooperating with CDPH to find the source of the illnesses. Public health officials performed an environmental assessment of the grocery store and provided guidance to employees on safe food handling practices and environmental cleaning to prevent more illnesses. Salmonella Outbreak Associated With Sun View Produce in Chicago

A Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least four people is associated with Sun View Produce grocery store in Chicago, Illinois. The outbreak started in early July 2019. The patients got sick after eating pork tamales or carnitas that were served from the deli section at that store. Sun View Produce is located at 6110 West 63rd Street in Chicago. If you ate food purchased from the deli section at that store since July 1, 2019, you may have been exposed to Salmonella bacteria. Symptoms of this illness include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea that may be bloody, and symptoms of dehydration. Salmonella Outbreak at Best BBQ in Chicago, Illinois Sickens 14

A Salmonella outbreak at Best BBQ at 1648 West 115th Street in Morgan Park in Chicago has been identified by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). At least 14 people are sick in this outbreak. And at least six people have been hospitalized because their illnesses are so severe. The Chicago Department of Public Health is recommending that anyone who ate at that restaurant recently and is suffering the symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning see a doctor as soon as possible. Lawsuit Filed in E. coli Outbreak at Carbon Live Fire Mexican Grill

A lawsuit has been filed in connection with the E. coli outbreak linked to Carbon Live Fire Mexican Grill in Chicago. Attorneys from a law firm, who have been contacted by five of the 50 who became ill after eating at the restaurant, filed suit on behalf Maria Terese Loparco, a resident of Cook County. The suit was filed today, July 8,  in Cook County Circuit Court (Case No. 2016-L- 006752). On June 25, Loparco ate two chicken tacos and two steak tacos from Carbon, according to the suit. By June 28, she began experiencing chills, stomach cramping, and other flu-like symptoms. By June 30, the gastrointestinal symptoms had worsened to include bloody diarrhea. Carbon E. coli Outbreak: 50 Sick, 14 Hospitalized

The E. coli outbreak linked to Carbon Live Fire Mexican grill has expanded to include 50 people, hospitalizing 14 of them, according to a spokesman for the Chicago Department of Public Health. The restaurant, located at 300 W. 26th Street in the South Side Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago, has been closed until the investigation is complete. The food source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.
