Jewel-Osco is recalling its Signature Farms Garden Salad for possible cyclospora contamination, according to a notice on its website. The FDA has listed this product as potentially linked to a multistate cyclospora outbreak that has sickened at least 76 people in 6 states. The salad was sold at Jewel Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. People sickened in the outbreak live in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. The recalled product is Signature Farms Garden Salad, sold in 12 ounce bags in the produce section of each supermarket. The best if used by dates on the salad are May 16 through July 4 (5-16-20 through 7-04-20). This date is printed on the top right corner of the front of the package. Hy-Vee stores is recalling its garden salad after its supplier, Fresh Express, told them of possible cyclospora contamination. The FDA has listed this product as potentially linked to a multistate cyclospora outbreak that has sickened at least 76 people in 6 midwestern states. However, the recall notice states that "Hy-Vee has not received any reports of illness due to consumption of its Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad." The recall is for 12 ounce Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad, with all UPC numbers and expiration dates included. FDA Updates ALDI Jewel Osco Hy Vee Bagged Salad Cyclospora Outbreak

The FDA has updated the ALDI Jewel Osco Hy Vee bagged salad cyclospora outbreak that has sickened at least 76 people in 6 midwest states. Hy-Vee has posted a recall of some of its garden salads on the FDA web site. ALDI and Jewel Osco have also listed recalls, but on their corporate sites only. The most significant changes to report are that the number of states where these products were probably sold has increased, along with details about the recalled salads. The recalled salads are potentially linked to the multistate Cyclospora outbreak by the FDA. The "garden salads" in question contain iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and carrots. The salads include ALDI Little Salad Bar Brand Garden Salad, Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salad, and Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Garden Salad. Investigators are trying to determine if other products may also be a source of these illnesses. FDA Weighs In On E. coli O103 Clover Sprouts Outbreak WIth 39 Sick

The FDA has weighed in on the E. coli O103 clover sprouts outbreak that has sickened 39 people in 6 states. Two possible sources of these raw sprouts have been identified: Jimmy John's restaurants and Chicago Indoor Garden. Chicago Indoor Garden recalled their products containing sprouts earlier this week after FDA analysis found the presence of the outbreak strain of E. coli O103 on the sprouts. The sample also matches the outbreak strain from the November through December 2019 E. coli O103 outbreak in Iowa. That outbreak was associated with sprouts from various Jimmy John's restaurants in the state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the clover sprouts E. coli O103 outbreak that is associated with Jimmy John's restaurants and Chicago Indoor Garden raw clover sprouts. Since the last update on February 26, 2020, 25 more patients who live in two states have been identified. Twenty-four of the new patients live in Utah, and Florida has been added to the state count. The patient case count by state is: Florida (1), Illinois (6), Iowa (3), Missouri (1), Texas (1), and Utah (27). Illness onset dates range from January 6, 2020 to March 2, 2020. FDA Updates E. coli O103 Clover Sprouts Outbreak With New Product Info

The FDA updated its investigation into the E. coli O103 clover sprouts outbreak that has sickened at least 14 people in five states. Yesterday, Chicago Indoor Garden recalled its products made with clover sprouts, since the FDA found the outbreak strain of E. coli O103 in a sample of the raw sprouts. The original outbreak notice linked this outbreak to clover sprouts served on Jimmy John's sandwiches, but there is no longer any mention of that restaurant in the outbreak notice. These illnesses are new and are not linked to the E. coli O103 outbreak in Iowa that the FDA referenced in warning letters that were sent to both Jimmy John's and another sprouts growing company in late February 2020. Epidemiologic evidence has indicated that clover sprouts served at Jimmy John's restaurants are a likely source of this outbreak. And this isn't the first time an outbreak like this has happened.
