Wonderful Pistachio Salmonella Outbreak Ends With 11 Sick

The Salmonella outbreak linked to Wonderful pistachios has ended after sickening 11 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The pistachios were recalled on March 9, consumers who have purchased them should not eat them as Salmonella can cause serious illness. Food Poisoning Bulletin alerted the agency to some discrepancies in a report earlier today and the agency is working to correct the information, so some specific information about the outbreak is not yet available. We do know that state and federal health officials used DNA “fingerprinting” to identify 11 case patients. Nature’s Eats, Southern Grove, Fresh Choice Expands Pistachio Salmonella Recall

Texas Star Nut & Food Company is expanding its recall of pistachios for possible Salmonella contamination. There is a Salmonella outbreak that is linked to pistachios ongoing at this time, but no illnesses have been reported in relation to these products at this time. The first recall, issued on March 10, 2016, was for just Nature's Eats Natural Pistachio Kernels. The newly recalled products are Fresh Choice Survivor Mix in 4.75 ounce containers, with UPC number 0-39759-17030-6 and best by dates of 9/11/2016 - 1/13/2017. Southern Grove Survivor Mix in 10 ounce packages is recalled, with UPC number 0-41498-21118-9 and best by dates of 8/27/2016 - 2/2/2017. Country Life Natural Foods Recalls Pistachios for Salmonella

Country Life Natural Foods of Pullman, Mich.  is recalling shelled raw pistachios for Salmonella. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Salmonella can cause serious illness or death. No illnesses had been reported in connection with the the products, at the time of the recall. The recalled products were sold in 2 lb bags and 30 lb boxes and distributed in AR, CA, FL, IA, IL, IN, MI, MN, MO, OK, SC, SD, TN, and WI through retail stores, mail order, and direct delivery. The 2 pound bags have the batch number 1357 in the lower left corner of the Country Life Natural Foods Label. The 30 lb boxes labeled  “SAM International,” have the lot number 102914, and best by date of April 29, 2016. International Foodservice Recalls Pistachios for Salmonella

International Foodsource is recalling pistachios for possible Salmonella contamination. They were sold in bags ab in bulk and distributed to food service and retail stores nationally. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of an infection include fever, diarrhea which may be bloody, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Salmonella on Pistachios Caused 2013 Outbreak

Pistachios were the source of a 2013 Salmonella outbreak, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The outbreak was mentioned in a warning letter the agency sent to ARO Pistachios Inc. of Terra Bella, CA notifying the company of food code violations discovered by FDA inspectors. In July 2013, two companies issued recalls for products containing ARO pistachios. At that time, illnesses had not been linked to  the products under recall. Torn and Glasser of Los Angeles recalled bags of pistachios sold under the brand names Torn and Glasser, Hilo, Sun Harvest, and Sprouts on July 12.  And on July 15, Western Mixers Produce & Nut Company of Los Angeles, California recalled bags and boxes of Treasured Harvest brand pistachios.
