Kitty’s Restaurant and Lounge in North Reading, MA Closed After Suspected Salmonella Outbreak; Some May Sue

Kitty's Restaurant and Lounge on Main Street in North Reading, Massachusetts has been closed after an alleged Salmonella outbreak. Omar Cabrera of the Communications Office at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health told Food Poisoning Bulletin that eleven cases are confirmed. Apparently, 39 people have complained to officials that they got sick after eating at that facility. All 11 confirmed cases have exposure to food prepared by that restaurant. According to NBC Boston, the outbreak apparently started on June 23, 2018. The North Reading Department of health has focused on the antipasto as the possible source of pathogenic bacteria. Salmonella Adelaide Outbreak Linked to Precut Melons Grows to 70 Sick; Lawsuits Follow

The Salmonella Adelaide outbreak linked to precut melons has now sickened 70 people in 7 states. That is an increase of 10 patients since the last update on June 8, 2018. Thirty-four of those patients have been hospitalized because they are so sick. The case count by state is:  Illinois (7), Indiana (11), Kentucky (1), Michigan (38), Missouri (10), Ohio (2), and Tennessee (1). Out of 63 people who have been interviewed, 34, or 54%, are in the hospital. Two more states have reported patients since the last update: Kentucky and Tennessee. The most recent illness started on June 3, 2018, so this outbreak will most likely grow, since the melon products were not recalled until June 8, 2018. Cyclospora Outbreak at Sonora Grill in Minneapolis Sickens 17; Lawsuits May Be Filed

A cyclospora outbreak at Sonora Grill in Minneapolis has just been announced by the Minnesota Department of Health. At least seventeen people are sick. Health officials are investigating this outbreak, which occurred at that restaurant in mid-May 2018.   The restaurant is cooperating with the investigation and health officials say there is no indication that there is an ongoing risk to patrons. There is another cyclospora outbreak in Minnesota and Wisconsin linked to Kwik Trip Del Monte vegetable trays, but officials say that they have no evidence to indicate that the two outbreaks are related. Minnesota Updates Cyclospora Outbreak Linked to Kwik Trip Del Monte Vegetable Trays; Patients Will Sue

The cyclospora outbreak linked to Kwik Trip Del Monte vegetable trays has been updated by the Minnesota Department of Health. To date, 20 people have been sickened just in Minnesota. Wisconsin may update their outbreak totals today or next week. Another cyclospora outbreak was just announced, that is associated with Sonora Grill restaurant in Minneapolis. Kwik Trip is cooperating with this outbreak and has removed the vegetable trays from their shelves. Cases report purchasing the vegetable trays at various Kwik Trip locations around the state. Precut Melon Linked to Salmonella Outbreak Sold in More States: AL, CA, FL, KS, MD, MN, NE, ND, SD, and TN; Lawsuits Filed

The FDA just stated that there are more states where precut melon and fresh-cut melon products linked to a Salmonella Adelaide outbreak were sold. They were also sold in Alabama, California, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Tennessee. That means the states that received these products include Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Kellogg Honey Smacks Cereal Recalled After Salmonella Mbandaka Outbreak; Some May Sue

Kellogg Honey Smacks cereal is being recalled after the FDA and CDC told the company about a multistate Salmonella Mbandaka outbreak that may be linked to that product. The cereal was distributed in the United States, as well as limited distribution in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guam, Tahiti and Saipan. The product in question is Kellogg Honey Smacks cereal (with limited distribution outside the U.S.)  in 15.3 ounce packages, with UPC number 3800039103 and best if used by dates of June 14, 2018 through June 14, 2019. Lawyers File First MN Cyclospora Lawsuit Against Del Monte Fresh Produce; Others May Sue

Lawyers at Pritzker Hageman have filed the first cyclospora lawsuit against Del Monte Fresh Product on June 12, 2018. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. A cyclospora outbreak that has sickened 14 people in Minnesota and Wisconsin was announced by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on June 8, 2018. Four case patients live in Minnesota; eleven live in Wisconsin. The outbreak announcement stated that Del Monte Vegetable Trays sold at Kwik Trip locations in the two states were being recalled and that they "pose a potential health risk." Attorneys File First Salmonella Lawsuit in Ohio; Others May Sue

The first Salmonella lawsuit in the multistate outbreak that is linked to precut melons has been filed by Pritzker Hageman attorneys. Their client is a 73-year-old woman who ate the fruit that was allegedly purchased from a Walmart store in Findlay, Ohio just before Mother's Day 2018. The woman was hospitalized and needed surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm in her abdomen that developed after the infection. She spent days in the hospital and is recovering in a nursing home. The Salmonella lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Salmonella Adelaide Outbreak Linked to Precut Melon From Kroger and Walmart; Some May Sue

A Salmonella Adelaide outbreak that is linked to precut melon sold at Walmart in some midwestern stats has sickened at least 60 people. The CDC has not released a formal statement, but has said that 31 of those 60 people are hospitalized. The patients in this Salmonella Adelaide outbreak live in five states. The case count by state is: Michigan (32), Illinois (6), Indiana (11), Missouri (10), and Ohio (1). Illness onset dates range from April 30, 2018 to May 18, 2018. The patient age range is from 1 to 97 years old.  The press releases state "No deaths have been confirmed to date." Officials in Michigan and Illinois have issued press releases about this outbreak.
