The Salmonella Carrau outbreak linked to precut melons produced by Caito Foods has sickened at least 93 people. The Salmonella contaminated precut melons were sold at Kroger, Target, Trader Joes, Amazon/Whole Foods, Walmart stores, and independent grocery stores in several states under several different brand names. Caito Foods recalled precut melons in many different combinations and iterations on April 12, 2019, the day the outbreak was announced by the FDA and CDC. The FDA has released information about the multistate Salmonella Adelaide outbreak that is linked to precut melons. Fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut fruit medley products that contain any of these melons that were produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana are being recalled as a result of this outbreak. Those products were distributed from the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio.. Trader Joe’s is recalling all lots Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Almonds sold in 16 0z packages because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts should not eat this product as they run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they do. The recalled products were distributed nationwide in Trader Joe’s retail stores. They were packaged in clear plastic with the UPC # 00761437 on the back of the package. The recall was initiated after peanuts were discovered in packages of Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Almonds. E. coli O157:H7 Outbreak Linked to Trader Joe Glass Onion Salads 2013
In 2013, an E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak linked to Trader Joe's Glass Onion ready-to-eat salads sickened 33 people in 4 states. Two patients developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) as a result of their infections. HUS is a type of kidney failure. E. coli bacteria are found in the intestinal tracts of mammals, particularly cattle. So how did this bacteria get into prepared salads? A recent study from the Food Standards Agency in the UK may provide some answers, even though the federal investigation did not pinpoint the ingredient that was contaminated in this outbreak or the method of contamination. In October and November 2013, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collaborated with public health officials in California, Washington and Arizona to trace an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 to two kinds of pre-packaged, ready-to-eat salads made for Trader Joe's grocery stores by Glass Onion Catering. The agencies continued their laboratory surveillance of the outbreak, uncovering 33 confirmed illnesses, including 28 E. coli case patients in the state of California. The molecular pattern of the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 had never been seen before in the United States, the CDC said. We have received quite a few responses to the story about the recall of fruit from Sam's Club, Costco, and Trader Joe's stores for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. It's difficult to hear about this story, especially if you have already consumed the fruit and fed it to your family. Here's what to do. First, make sure you actually bought the recalled fruit. The FDA has published the Wawona Packing List that contains all of the fruit with lot and BlockID numbers. Hummus, Dips Sold at Target, Trader Joe’s Recalled for Listeria
A number of dips are being recalled for possible contamination. Lansal, d.b.a. Hot Mama's Foods is recalling about 14,860 pounds of hummus and dip products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported, but the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by the Listeria bacteria, can take months to manifest.
