Citterio Salame Sticks Salmonella Outbreak Ends With 34 Sick

The Citterio Salame Sticks Salmonella outbreak has ended with 34 people sick in 10 states and seven people hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That is an increase of four more patients since the last update almost a month ago. The patient case count by state is: California (13), Illinois (6), Kansas (2), Maryland (1), Michigan (3), Minnesota (3), New Jersey (2), New York (1), Pennsylvania (1), and Virginia (2). The patient age range is from one to 75 years. Illness onset dates ranged from September 18, 2021 to October 30, 2021. Public Health Alert Issued For Citterio Salame Stick Products

The USDA has issued a public health alert for Citterio Salame Stick products that are linked to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 21 people in eight states. A recall was not requested because the government thinks that these products are no longer for sale, and also because FSIS has not identified a specific contaminated lot. The company that made the sticks is Euro Foods of Freeland, Pennsylvania. The government is telling people to not eat any of these products no matter where they were purchased or their use by dates. How Many Active Salmonella Outbreaks Are There in the U.S.?

Salmonella has been in the news a lot lately. So how many active Salmonella outbreaks are there in the U.S.? There are currently four active Salmonella outbreaks in the United States: One linked to red, yellow, and white onions; one linked to seafood sold by a company in Colorado; one linked to salami sticks, and one linked to crabmeat in Maine. Two of those outbreaks are on the FDA Core Investigation Outbreak Table; one is on the USDA Outbreak Table, and the Maine outbreak is not on either because it is not a multistate outbreak. Did Citterio Facebook Giveaway Winners Get Salmonella Salami Sticks?

Did Citterio September Facebook giveaway winners receive salami sticks now linked to a multistate outbreak?  Here's why there may be a concern. Citterio USA of Freeland, PA announces a giveaway about once a month on Facebook. Salami sticks are one of the items in the photo for the September 7 post announcing last month's giveaway. The entry deadline was September 15, 2021, with winners announced the next day. Based on the comment section, it looks like prizes were mailed out at the end of the month. On September 30, one winner posted a photo of the box she'd won. It contains a variety of products including salami sticks, which Citterio calls salame sticks. See below. Citterio Salame Sticks Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 20 in 8 States

The Citterio Salame Sticks Salmonella outbreak has now sickened at least 20 people in eight states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Last week, the Minnesota Department of Health announced that three people living in that state were sickened. The outbreak has spread beyond that state. The Salame Sticks were sold at Trader Joe's grocery stores and may have been sold at other grocery stores around the country. Nine people were interviewed about the foods they ate before they got sick, and eight said they ate or maybe ate this product. Investigators are working to see if other products may also be contaminated. Citterio Salame Sticks Are Linked to a Salmonella Outbreak in Minnesota

Citterio Salame Sticks are linked to a Salmonella outbreak in Minnesota, according to a news release issued by the Minnesota Department of Health. The Citterio Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks were sold at Trader Joe's stores and other retailers. Three people in Minnesota are part of this outbreak. The illness onset dates range from September 20, 2021 to September 29, 2021. One patient was hospitalized for two days, and all have recovered. All three patients said they ate Citterio Premium Italian-style Salame Sticks that were purchased at different Trader Joe's locations before they got sick.
