Tomme Corse Cheese Recalled For Possible Listeria

Fabrique en Corse Tomme Corse au Lait de Brebis cheese is being recalled because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Because this recall was posted on the FDA's Enforcement page, there is no mention of whether or not any illnesses have been reported in association with the consumption of this cheese. The recalling firm is Estancia Holdings of Cumming, Georgia. The product was shipped to one customer in Oregon. That consignee was notified about this issue, so no press release was issued. The recalled product is Fabrique en Corse Tomme Corse au Last de Brebis Antoine cheese that comes in two 3 kilogram wheels for a total of 13.5 pounds. Fromagerie Ottavi Tome Corse Sheep Milk Cheese is being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This product is associated with an ongoing outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes in Europe. The recalling firm is FMA International of Brooklyn, New York. FMA International imported one case from the affected lot and it was distributed in Oregon to a specialty food distributor. The one case has been accounted for and has been destroyed. Kootenay Meadows Nostrala Firm Surface-Ripened Cheese is being recalled in Canada because it may be contaminated with the pathogens Staphylococcus aureus and generic E. coli. The recall notice did not mention whether or not any illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue. The recalling firm is Mountain Valley Dairy Ltd. Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that causes foodborne illness. Symptoms of this illness include sudden and abrupt onset. Patients suffer from nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps with or without diarrhea, along with hyper salivation. Ill persons can suffer dehydration and hypotension. NetCost Deli Meat and Cheese Listeria Outbreak Number 7 of 2022

The deadly Netcost deli meat and cheese Listeria monocytogenes outbreak is the number seven outbreak of 2022, with at least 16 people sick in six states. Thirteen people have been hospitalized because they are so ill, and one person who lived in Maryland has died. As of November 9, 2022, which was the last time this outbreak investigation was updated, the case count by state is: California (1), Illinois (2), Maryland (3), Massachusetts (2), New Jersey (1), and New York (7). Illness onset dates range from April 17, 2021 to September 29, 2022. One person got sick during a pregnancy, which resulted in a fetal loss.  The patient age range is from 38 to 92 years. Health Alert For Seville Spread by Yellow House Cheese in OH

A health alert has been issued for Seville Spread in two flavors, by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The product was not tested for antibiotics, and there are no pasteurization records for the milk that was used to make the cheese. All milk that is used to make dairy products in that state must be tested for the presence of antibiotics before processing. People who are allergic to some types of antibiotics could have a serious reaction if they eat these products. And the milk that is used to make this type of soft cheese must be pasteurized. Unpasteurized milk may contain harmful pathogens such as Campylobacter, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and E. coli that can make you very sick. Once again, a new Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to deli meats and cheeses has been reported by the CDC. These outbreaks have happened regularly since 2018, and cause serious illness and hospitalizations. The history of deli meat and cheese listeria outbreaks is deadly. These products are susceptible to Listeria contamination for several reasons. First, this pathogen is very persistent and it can protect itself against regular cleaning products by producing a biofilm. Once it has been introduced into a deli environment it is very difficult to eradicate. The bacteria can hide in cracks and in machines that are difficult to clean, such as deli meat slicers. Most Deli Meat and Cheese Listeria Cases Are in New York State

In the latest outbreak, most of the deli meat and cheese Listeria cases are in New York, according to the FDA and CDC. Seven of the 16 cases live in that state. In fact, among seven patients from New York who were interviewed, five said they bought sliced deli meat or cheese from at least one location of NetCost Market. In 2021, the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes was found in several environmental and food samples during inspections at NetCost Markets in Brooklyn and Staten Island. Then, in September 2022, the outbreak strain was found in the same Brooklyn NetCost Market. That store is not linked to the most recent illnesses, however.
