Fueling Minds Kitchen Calgary E. coli Outbreak Critical Violations

Critical violations have been found at the Fueling Minds Kitchen, which supplied food to daycare centers in Calgary, Alberta, that are experiencing a huge E. coli outbreak, according to news reports. At least 264 people are sick with lab-confirmed cases, 25 remain hospitalized, and 22 have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which is a type of kidney failure. Several patients have required dialysis. Officials say that this is the largest E. coli outbreak in that province. The inspection report filed after officials went to Fueling Minds Kitchen found several critical violations including the presence of live and dead roaches. E. coli Outbreak at Six Calgary Daycare Centers Sickens 128

An E. coli outbreak at six Calgary, Alberta daycare centers has sickened at least 128 people, according to Alberta Health Services and news reports.  Since AHS last released an update on September 4, 2023, five more daycare centers located in that city in Canada have been added. As of September 7, 2023, 25 children are hospitalized. Nine patients have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), and three children have been discharged from the hospital. Salmonella Outbreak at Elite Childcare Academy in Omaha, NE

A possible Salmonella outbreak at Elite Childcare Academy in Omaha, Nebraska may have sickened an unknown number of children, according to news reports. The Douglas County Health Department is investigating. One hundred children are enrolled. Officials do not know how many children may have been sickened, since there can be a 72 hour incubation period with Salmonella infections. The business told news outlets that there are confirmed cases of Salmonella among some of the children. Moreover, some children can be infected with the pathogen and not show any symptoms, but can pass the illness on to others. Investigators have not found the cause of the illnesses. E. coli O157 Outbreak at Fulton County Indiana Daycare

The Fulton County Health Department has issued a statement about an E. coli O157 outbreak among children in a local daycare. All  confirmed cases being investigated are associated with the same daycare facility. At least two children are hospitalized as a result of their illnesses. Children who attend school or daycare who are sick with a diarrheal illness should stay home until they are completely well. If a child has an E. coli infection, they must have two negative stool tests and be symptom-free before returning to daycare of school. In addition, adults with E. coli O157 infections who work in health care settings or food service should stay home and not go to work when they are ill. E. coli Outbreak at Indiana Daycare

An E. coli outbreak at an Indiana daycare has sickened several children, according to WDNU-TV. The Fulton and Wabash County Health Departments and Indiana State Department of Health are working together to investigate the outbreak which may include a fatality. In June, an E. coli outbreak at the Learning Vine daycare center in South Carolina sickened 14 children, one of whom died. E.coli attorney Eric Hageman is filing a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family whose 2-year old boy died. About 10 percent of children who contract E. coli infections develop a severe complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) which  leads to kidney failure. Kids Sickened with Food Poisoning at Montgomery, AL Daycare

More than 30 children have been hospitalized with possible food poisoning at the Sunnyside Child Care Center on Norman Bridge Road in Montgomery, Alabama, according to AlabamaNews.net. The children have been suffering from vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. Some children must remain at the hospital overnight tonight at Baptist South for monitoring. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tom Miller said lab work is being conducted to determine what caused the illnesses. First impressions is that contaminated food may have been served at the daycare. Other news reports are that more than 60 children have been taken to emergency rooms with food poisoning symptoms. Now 11 Sick with E. coli At The Learning Vine Daycare in SC

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has updated their investigation into the Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) outbreak at The Learning Vine daycare in Greenwood county. Now 11 cases have been confirmed. The cases are of people who went to the daycare and their family members. As of today, June 13, 2014, 194 test results are negative for STEC. The three new lab-confirmed cases are people who had diarrhea, or were asymptomatic, but are now symptom-free. There is "no evidence of ongoing transmission related to this investigation, and there has been no new onset of illness in students or staff of the daycare since June 1, 2015," according to the report.
