Taylor Farms Products Made With Thomson International Onions Recalled

The USDA is issuing a public health alert for some Taylor Farms products made with Thomson International onions that were recalled for possible Salmonella Newport contamination. There is a multistate outbreak potentially linked to those onions that has sickened almost 400 people in the U.S., but there are no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these FSIS-regulated products made with those onions. The ready to eat meat and poultry items were made on July 30 and July 31, 2020. Which Stores Sold Onions Recalled For Possible Salmonella?

The newest Salmonella Newport outbreak has sickened at least 396 people in 34 states and has hospitalized 59. The outbreak is potentially linked to red onions sold by Thomson International. Those onions were recalled last week. But which stores sold the onions recalled for possible Salmonella contamination? And are products made with those onions recalled? According to recall notices posted on their web sites, ALDI, Food Lion, Giant Eagle/Market District, Kroger, Publix, Stop & Shop/Giant Food Stores, Smiths, Fry's, Fred Meyer, and Walmart allegedly sold these onions under various store names and brand names, and some were used to make other products such as salads and stir fries. FDA Weighs In on Multistate Red Onion Salmonella Newport Outbreak

The FDA is weighing in on the multistate red onion Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened at least 396 people in 34 states. The FDA is collaborating with the Public Health Agency of Canada, where more than a hundred people are sick with the same strain of Salmonella Newport. On July 30, 2020, Canadian health officials announced they had determined that red onions from the U.S. were a potential source of the outbreak. Sysco red onions that were imported from the United States were recalled in that country. Then on August 1, 2020, Thomson International recalled all varieties of onions in the U.S. and Canada that could have come into contact with the potentially contaminated red onions, including yellow, white, and sweet yellow onions grown and packaged by that company. Thomson International Red Onions Recalled in Canada For Salmonella

Thomson International red onions, as well as yellow, white, and sweet onions imported from the U.S. into Canada are being recalled for potential Salmonella contamination. The onions were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Ontario, Possibly National, Saskatchewan, Yukon at the retail level. Red, white, yellow, and sweet yellow onions grown by Thomson International of Bakersfield, California are recalled. No one should eat those onions, or any foods made with the onions. Thomson International Onions Recalled For Possible Salmonella

Thomson International onions are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination and a potential link to a multistate Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened almost 400 people in the U.S. and more than a hundred in Canada. The recalled onions were shipped from May 1, 2020 through the present. The red, white, sweet, and yellow onions were distributed to wholesalers, restaurants, and retail stores in all 50 states in addition to the District of Columbia and Canada. Thomson International Onions, in yellow, red, white, and sweet varieties, are linked to the large multistate Salmonella Newport outbreak, according to a new report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At least 396 people in 34 states are now ill in this outbreak. Fifty-nine people have been hospitalized because they are so ill. Sysco Red Onions Are Recalled in Canada Salmonella Newport Outbreak

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says that Sysco red onions are recalled in relation to the Salmonella Newport outbreak in that country. The onions were imported from the United States into five western Canadian provinces. At least 114 people are sick with Salmonella Newport infections in those provinces, and 16 are hospitalized because they are so ill. The onions were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan at the consumer level. These are the cities that have Sysco locations where the Sysco red onions were sold: Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Regina. Canada Salmonella Newport Outbreak Linked to Mystery U.S. Illnesses

A Canada Salmonella Newport outbreak is linked to the mystery outbreak in the United States, according to a health notice published by Public Health Agency of Canada. As in the U.S., the source of this pathogen has not been identified. The outbreak is ongoing. At least 59 people are sick as of July 24, 2020. The case count by province is: British Columbia (23), Alberta (31), Manitoba (3), Ontario (1), and Prince Edward Island (1). The illness onset dates range from mid June and mid July 2020. The patient age range is from 11 to 77 years of age. Out of 28 people who provided information to public health officials, six have been hospitalized. An unidentified Salmonella Newport outbreak has sickened at least 125 people in 15 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Twenty-four people have been hospitalized because they are so sick. This is the way foodborne illness outbreaks sometimes start; the government publicizes it, and more people come forward who may have information that helps solve it. FDA Weighs In On Frozen Raw Ground Tuna Salmonella Outbreak

The FDA has released information about the frozen raw ground tuna Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened at least 13 people in 7 states. The tuna was sourced from Jensen Tuna, and imported from JK Fish of Vietnam. Jensen Tuna voluntarily recalled this tuna on April 15, 2019. The FDA statement says that it's unlikely the ground tuna was sold directly to consumers in grocery stores. They think that it was used to make food dishes, such as sushi and spicy tuna, by restaurants and retailers. The tuna was sold in Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, New York, and Washington state.
