Deadly Yu Shang Listeria Outbreak Sickens 19, Kills 2

The deadly Yu Shang Listeria outbreak has now sickened 19 people in eight states and has killed two, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Seventeen people are hospitalized because they are so sick. That is an increase of eight new patients, eight new hospitalizations, one new death, and four new states. The case count by state is: California (10), Georgia (1), Illinois (2), Nevada (1), New Jersey (1), New York (1), Oregon (1), and Tennessee (2).  The new states are Georgia, Nevada, Oregon, and Tennessee. Deadly Yu Shang Listeria Monocytogenes Outbreak Sickens 11

A deadly Yu Shang Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has sickened at least 11 people in four states, according to the CDC. An infant who lived in California has died. Many of the company's products have been recalled. This outbreak is linked to ready to eat meat and poultry products. The case count by state is: California (7), Illinois (2), New Jersey (1), and New York (1). Ill persons' samples were collected from October 24, 2021 to July 31, 2024. This long period of illness reports is not unusual for a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, but it is unusual that it took four months for the government to inform the public about this outbreak. Yu Shang Food Recall For Listeria Expanded; Outbreak Linked

The Yu Shang Food recall for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination is being expanded, and a deadly outbreak has been linked to these items. The original recall was for less than 5,000 pounds of products; the expansion includes more than 72,000 pounds of food. You can see the list of recalled products, along with pictures of product labels, at the USDA web site. No package sizes, UPC numbers, best if used by dates, or other codes were provided in the recall notice. All of these items that were produced before October 23, 2024 are included in this recall.
