Deadly McDonald’s Onions E. coli O157:H7 Outbreak Sickens 90

The deadly McDonald's onions E. coli O157:H7 outbreak has now sickened at least 90 people in 13 states and hospitalized 27, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That's an increase of 15 more patients and five new hospitalizations since the last update. The case count is: Colorado (29), Iowa (1), Kansas (1), Michigan (2), Missouri (8), Montana (17), Nebraska (12), New Mexico (5), Oregon (1), Utah (7), Washington (1), Wisconsin (1), and Wyoming (5). Illnesses onset dates range from September 27, 2024 to October 16, 2024. The person who died lived in Colorado. Of 83 people who gave information to public health officials, 27 have been hospitalized, for a hospitalization rate of 33%. The patient age range is from 13 to 88 years. A Tu Gusto Croquettes are being recalled because they contain the allergens soy, sesame seed, and wheat that are not declared on the product label, and were not inspected by the USDA. Anyone who is allergic to those ingredients, as well as anyone with celiac disease, could have a serious reaction if they eat these products. There are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. The recalling firm is A Tu Gusto of Lehigh Acres, Florida. About 7,630 pounds of frozen meat and poultry croquette products are included in this recall. They were produced between April and October 2024 and have a shelf life of six months. It's almost Halloween! Get these Halloween food safety tips from the FDA to keep your kids safe. Once the costumes are ready there are some things for you to think about. First of all, make sure your kids eat a healthy snack or meal before they head out trick or treating. McDonald's beef patties test negative for E. coli O157:H7, according to a press release from the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Multiple lots of McDonald's brand fresh and frozen beef patties were collected from different McDonald's locations in Colorado that are associated with a deadly E. coli O157:H7 outbreak. All burgers from all lots were negative for the pathogen. The beef testing has been completed and the Department does not think they will need to conduct more testing. The outbreak has sickened at least 75 people in 13 states. New E. coli O157:H7 and Listeria Outbreaks on FDA CORE Table

New E. coli O157:H7 and Listeria outbreaks are on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. The two cyclospora outbreaks have ended, unsolved. There are currently eight outbreaks on the Table; six are not solved. The two cyclospora outbreaks ended unsolved; one had 61 patients, and the other 46. The FDA initiated traceback, collected and tested samples, and conducted inspections, to no avail. The new E. coli O157:H7 outbreak is linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder beef sandwiches. There are 75 people sick, with 22 hospitalized and one death. Those patients live in 131 states. Taylor Farms has recalled their silvered onions from food service customers in relation to this outbreak, but the FDA has not yet determined that the onions are the source of contamination. And Taylor Farms has recalled slivered onions sent to food service operators, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
