Possible Real Water Non-viral Hepatitis Outbreak Prompts CDC HAN Alert

The possible Real Water non-viral hepatitis outbreak is prompting a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Health Alert Network (HAN) Alert. Five cases of acute non-viral hepatitis of unknown etiology were reported to the Southern Nevada Heath District between November and December 2020. The CDC is assisting the investigation about a potential link between those illnesses and consumption of Real Water alkaline water and other possible etiologies. The CDC and FDA were notified about those five Nevada cases by the SNHD in Nevada on March 13, 2021. The patient age range is from seven months to five years. FDA Updates Non-viral Hepatitis Real Water Outbreak Investigation

The FDA has updated their non-viral hepatitis Real Water outbreak investigation with more information. There are a "number of reports" of acute non-viral hepatitis in the state of Nevada that are associated with Real Water brand alkaline water. The official case count remains at five sick, with all five patients hospitalized. All of those patients live in Nevada. The FDA now knows that Real Water alkaline water is still being offered for sale through online retailers. The government is trying to locate any remaining product so they are not available for consumers to purchase. FDA Updates Real Water Non-viral Hepatitis Outbreak

The FDA has updated the Real Water non-Viral hepatitis outbreak that has sickened at least five children living in Nevada. The consumption of Real Water brand alkaline water is the only common link identified among all of the cases so far. This brand of water is owned by Real Water, Inc. of Mesa, Arizona. FDA is in the beginning stage of this investigation, and more products may be connected to this outbreak. An investigation at the Real Water firm has begun. Real Water Non-Viral Hepatitis Illnesses Investigated by FDA

The FDA is investigating Real Water non-viral hepatitis illnesses, according to an outbreak investigation notice. The CDC and the Southern Nevada Health District are aiding in the investigation. On March 13, the FDA was told by the Southern Nevada Health District about five cases of acute non-viral hepatitis in infants and children that occurred in November 2020 with an unknown cause. Those cases resulted in acute liver failure. All five patients were hospitalized and have since recovered. All of these children live in Nevada. The last illness onset date was November 29, 2020. Final Report on Salmonella Outbreak Associated With Elko NV Restaurant

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has issued a final report on the Salmonella outbreak associated with "Restaurant A" in Elko, Nevada. The outbreak is associated with eggs served less than well done at that restaurant. Based on the details of this report and previous investigations, we believe Restaurant A is  the Grille at Gold Dust West restaurant in Elko. Eggs were suspected in that outbreak, and according to news reports, 17 people were sickened. The outbreak was first picked up by officials when between Friday, March 8, 2019 and Monday, March 11, 2019 there were 12 positive Salmonella lab reports from "Hospital A" in Elko. FDA Investigating Raw Oyster Shigella Outbreak That Sickened Five

The FDA is investigating a subset of the Shigella, Vibrio, E. coli, and Campylobacter outbreak that is linked to raw oysters harvested from Estero El Cardon in Baja California Sur, Mexico. That agency is looking at the five people sickened with Shigella infections. Patients sickened in this raw oyster Shigella outbreak got ill in early 2019. The outbreak notice states that restaurants that sell raw oysters in California, Nevada, New York, and Arizona are part of the investigation. The oysters were sold to wholesale distributors with direct sales to restaurants and were not sold to consumers through grocery retail stores. Eggs Suspected in Salmonella Outbreak at Grille at Gold Dust West

The Salmonella outbreak that is associated with the Grille at Gold Dust West restaurant in Elko, Nevada is still under investigation. At least seventeen people are sick in that outbreak, according to news reports. Now, eggs seem to be the focus of the investigation. Several news outlets state that the Nevada health department has asked the restaurant to remove eggs from its menu. The investigation of other menu items continues. Lab tests on the eggs and other foods are due next week. Eggs have been the source of Salmonella outbreaks for years. Salmonella Outbreak at Grille at Gold Dust West in Nevada Sickens 17

A Salmonella outbreak at Grille at Gold Dust West in Elko, Nevada has sickened at least 17 people, according to news reports. There is no information about this outbreak on the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health. We don't know what type of Salmonella made people sick, and there is no information about how the illnesses may have been transmitted. We also do not know if anyone has been hospitalized because their illness is severe. The cause of the outbreak has not been determined. Worker with Hepatitis A at Trader Joe’s in Reno, Nevada Diagnosed Weeks Ago

An employee at the Trader Joe's store in Reno, Nevada has been diagnosed with hepatitis A. This information just came out two days ago, but the employee worked there in October, so it's too late for anyone who may have been exposed to get a hepatitis A or immune globulin vaccination. A sign was posted at the store by the Washoe County Health District, but they do not have any information about this issue on their website. That employee is a checker and a stocker. Since checkers do not wear gloves when they handle food, consumers may have been exposed to the virus. That Trader Joe's store is located at 5035 South McCarran Boulevard. Reno Provisions Closing; Made Dessert Linked to Twisted Fork Outbreak

According to a message on its Facebook page, Reno Provisions, the cafe that made a dessert linked to a food poisoning outbreak in Nevada in 2015, is closing. An E. coli outbreak at the Twisted Fork restaurant in Reno, Nevada last year sickened at least 22 people. Investigators at the Washoe County Health District discovered that chocolate mousse made by Reno Provisions, a store and cafe, for the restaurant was contaminated with the pathogenic bacteria. Apparently a blender used for meat that was not cleaned properly before it was used again to make the mousse was the culprit. The outbreak took place in October and November, 2015.
