Hannaford Meijer 365 Shrimp Recalled in Salmonella Outbreak

The Salmonella Weltevreden outbreak announced by the FDA on their Outbreak Investigation Table last week now has product names associated with it. Six people who live in Nevada and Arizona are sick in this outbreak. Today, a recall was announced for Hannaford Meijer 365 shrimp, along with other brands, in association with this outbreak. The potential for contamination was identified by the FDA based on prior testing of frozen cooked shrimp imported by Avanti Frozen Foods. Avanti Frozen Foods did not distribute that prior batch of imported shrimp and destroyed it. The company has taken steps to eliminate the potential for future contamination. Cooked Shrimp Salmonella Weltevreden Outbreak Sickens at Least Six

According to the FDA's Core Outbreak Investigation Table, the latest outbreak is a cooked shrimp Salmonella Weltevreden outbreak that has sickened at least six people. We do not know where the ill persons live, their ages, or if anyone has been hospitalized. We do know that the most recent illness occurred in late April 2021. Pre-cooked shrimp, of unknown origin, has become the focus of the FDA investigation. The government thinks that the product lots that are linked to these illnesses are past their shelf life and are no longer available for sale. The outbreak table does not state if the shrimp was sold frozen or not. Kirkland Frozen Cooked Shrimp Recalled For Possible Salmonella

Kader Exports is recalling Kirkland Frozen Cooked Shrimp, along with other brands such as Aqua Star, Censea, Fresh Market, Tops, ellsley Farms, and Unistar, for possible Salmonella contamination. There have been no reports of any illnesses to date associated with this recall. Frozen cooked shrimp imported by Kader Experts was tested by the FDA and found to contain Salmonella. The recall notice states, "Kader Exports did not distribute and have agreed to voluntarily destroy cooked shrimp found violative. The probable root cause for this recall is cross contamination.
