Fresh Express Salad Kits Recalled For Possible Listeria

Fresh Express Salad Kits in three varieties are being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products. The recalling firm is Fresh Express. These salads are expired and are no longer available for sale, but some people may have them or have eaten them. The salads were produced at the company's Morrow, Georgia facility. A random sample test of a single salad kit with a use-by date of March 31, 2023 that was collected by the Georgia Department of Agriculture tested positive for the pathogen. The recalled products include Fresh Express Chopped Salad Kit packaged in 9,40 ounce containers. The UPC number for that product is 00071279309194. Revolution Farms lettuces linked to Listeria outbreak, according to the FDA, and all of its lettuces and salad kits are recalled. There is no information from the CDC or FDA yet on this outbreak. The deadly Dole Salad Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has ended with 18 sick in 13 states, 16 patients hospitalized, and three deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That's an increase of one more patient in Ohio and one more death, also in Ohio, since the last update in early February 2022. The patient case count by state is: Idaho (1), Iowa (2), Maryland (1), Michigan (1), Minnesota (2), Nevada (1), North Carolina (1), Ohio (3), Oregon (1), Pennsylvania (1), Texas (2), Utah (1), and Wisconsin (1). The deadly Fresh Express Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has ended with 10 people sick in eight states. One person, who lived in Pennsylvania, died. Fresh Express recalled its packaged salads that were produced in its Streamwood, Illinois facility on December 20, 2021. The case count has remained unchanged since the last update on December 22, 2021. The patient case count by state is: Illinois (1), Massachusetts (1), Michigan (1), New Jersey (2), New York (1), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (2), and Virginia (1). Nine multistate Salmonella outbreaks in 2021 sickened more than 1,200 Americans and hospitalized 250, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The only Salmonella outbreak that has continued into 2022 is the Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak linked to fresh onions imported from Mexico. All of these outbreaks were linked to a specific product, and all were associated with at least one recall or public health alert. No illnesses have been reported in Canada in connection with the consumption of these products. They were sold nationwide at the retail level. There is a deadly Listeria monocytogenes outbreak in the United States linked to other Dole salad products. The recalled salads include Dole Garden Salad in 340 gram packages with the UPC number 0 71430 01135 5. All packages with a lot code beginning with the letter "B" and a best before date up to and including January 8, 2022, as well as all packages with a lot code beginning with the letter "W" and a best before date up to and including January 9, 2022 are included. Dole recalls iceberg lettuce salad mixes for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. There is a deadly multistate Listeria monocytogenes outbreak that is potentially linked to some Dole packaged salads, but no illnesses are linked to these specific products to date. The salads were produced at the company's Springfield, Ohio and Soledad, California production facilities. All Dole-branded and private label packaged salads described in the list at the FDA web site are included in this recall. The FDA CORE Outbreak Table has six active food poisoning investigations currently; all but one has been identified or solved. The Salmonella Javiana outbreak, which was announced on November 24, 2021, is still not identified, and the number of people sickened in that outbreak has increased to 64. No recall has been initiated, although traceback has begun, on-site inspection has been started, and sample collection and analysis has been initiated. When there is some concrete action that consumers can take, the FDA should update the investigation. Both brands are organic. Four people have been hospitalized, and one person has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. Dole recalls bagged salads for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination as a result of a deadly listeriosis outbreak that has sickened at least 16 people in 13 states. The salads were processed in the company's Bessemer City, North Carolina and Yuma, Arizona facilities. The recalling firm is Dole Fresh Vegetables. The products all have a product lot code that begins with either the letter "N" or the letter "Y" in the upper right corner of the package. The best if used by dates on these products are between November 30, 2021 and January 8, 2022.
