The FDA has released information about the multistate Salmonella Adelaide outbreak that is linked to precut melons. Fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut fruit medley products that contain any of these melons that were produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana are being recalled as a result of this outbreak. Those products were distributed from the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio.. E. coli Outbreak Prompts Huge Taylor Farms Celery Recall
An E. coli outbreak that has sickened 19 people has triggered a massive recall of products containing Taylor Farms celery. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as E. coli can cause serious illness and death. At least 19 people in seven states have already been sickened, two of them have hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) a life-threatening complication that causes kidney failure. Walgreens Pulls Phony Herbal Supplements; Walmart, Target, GNC Keep Selling
After tests showed their store-brand herbal supplements did not to contain the herbs on their labels, Walmart, Walgreens Target and GNC all received cease and desist letters from New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman yesterday. Only Walgreens has responded by pulling the products. Walmart Target and GNC issued statements that they were looking into the matter. While they do, their shoppers cam feel free to shell out $8-$10 on bottles full of sand, allium, pine, wheat/grass, rice mustard, citrus, dracaena (houseplant) or cassava (tropical tree root), but labeled Ginseng, Garlic, St John' Wort or Echinacea. Shigella Outbreak Closes Walmart Home Office Restaurant
A Shigella outbreak at Salsarita's, a restaurant in the food court of the Walmart home office in Bentonville, Ark., prompted the restaurant's closure after health inspectors found several food safety violations including employees not washing their hands, touching food with their bare hands and juices from raw chicken dripping on to bottled drinks in the refrigerator. Dozens of Walmart employees became ill after eating at the restaurant last week. Shigella is transmitted when an infected person does not wash hands properly and then touches food or a surface used to prepare food. After it is ingested, the Shigella bacteria causes an infection called shigellosis. Walmart is recalling P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Pork and Leek Dumpling frozen appetizers for undeclared allergens shrimp and fish. No other P.F. Chang’s brand products are affected by this limited voluntary recall. This recall does not affect any P.F. Chang's restaurants. This product is only a food safety concern for people who are allergic to crustacean shellfish or fish. Sam’s Club, Walmart and Kroger Recall Spinach For E. coli
Sam's Club, Walmart and some Kroger stores are recalling Taylor Farms organic baby spinach products sold under a a variety of names due to possible contamination with E.coli. The brand names under recall include Central Market Organics, Full Circle Organic, Marketside Organic, Simple Truth Organic and Taylor Farms Organic. Recalled Simple Truth Organic baby spinach was sold at stores owned by the Kroger company. They include King Soopers, City Market, Fry's, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, Food4Less, FoodsCo, QFC and Smith's in Texas and Louisiana.
