Now 892 Sick in the Salmonella Onion Outbreak; 183 Hospitalized

There are now 892 sick in Salmonella onion outbreak that is linked to red, white, and yellow onions imported from Mexico as of November 12, 2021. One hundred eighty three people have been hospitalized. That is an increase of 84 new cases, one new state (Hawaii), and 26 new hospitalizations since the last update on October 29, 2021. Onion Salmonella Recalls Begin in Association With Outbreak

Onion Salmonella recalls, including secondary recalls, have started in association with a huge outbreak that has sickened at least 808 people in 37 states and Puerto Rico. The onions were imported from the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. It's important to understand that if you aren't sure whether or not onions you have in your home are part of this recall, you should throw them away anyway. The cost of replacing onions is minimal compared to the cost of a Salmonella infection. The recalls started on October 21, 2021 and continue to this day. The onions have a shelf life of three months if properly stored, so are most likely not available for sale any more. But some may be frozen in consumers' home freezers. Keeler Family Farms Salmonella Onions Retail List Released

The FDA has published the Keeler Family Farms Salmonella onions retail distribution list, associated with the huge multistate Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak that has sickened at least 808 people in 37 states. The list is very short, as opposed to the retail distribution list for ProSource Produce onions, which was released a few days ago. The retail distribution list for Keeler Family Farm Salmonella onions is for HelloFresh meal delivery services, and Gordon Food Service stores, located in several towns in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The recall notice states that the onions from Keeler Family Farms were distributed to wholesales, retail stores, and restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The FDA has released a list of establishments that may have received onions that have been recalled by ProSource Produce LLC (ProSource Inc.). This list represents the "best information" currently available to the FDA, but it may not include all of the establishments that received the onions, and may include establishments that did not receive the onions. How Many Active Salmonella Outbreaks Are There in the U.S.?

Salmonella has been in the news a lot lately. So how many active Salmonella outbreaks are there in the U.S.? There are currently four active Salmonella outbreaks in the United States: One linked to red, yellow, and white onions; one linked to seafood sold by a company in Colorado; one linked to salami sticks, and one linked to crabmeat in Maine. Two of those outbreaks are on the FDA Core Investigation Outbreak Table; one is on the USDA Outbreak Table, and the Maine outbreak is not on either because it is not a multistate outbreak. Gwillimdale Farms Onions Recalled in Canada For Salmonella

The recall of ProSource Produce onions for possible Salmonella contamination in Canada has been¬†updated with a farm name. Gwillimdale Farms onions imported from Mexico are recalled. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency discovered this information during their investigation. Onions imported from Mexico are linked to a Salmonella outbreak in the United States that has sickened at least 652 people. However, there have been no reported illnesses in Canada that are associated with the consumption of these onions. The recall was triggered by a recall in the U.S. by ProSource Produce LLC (ProSource Inc.) of Hailey, Idaho. ProSource Produce onions are being recalled in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The onions are from Chihuahua, Mexico. Onions from Chihuahua, Mexico, imported by ProSource Produce LLC (ProSource Inc.), are linked to a huge Salmonella outbreak in the United States. There are no reported illnesses in Canada that are associated with the consumption of these onions. The onions were distributed in Ontario and Quebec and may have been distributed nationally at the retail level. Whole raw red, yellow, and white onions are called. Green Giant Fresh onions are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. The onions were sourced from ProSource Produce LLC (ProSource Inc.). Those onions that were imported from Chihuahua, Mexico are associated with a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states. There is no indication at this time that Green Giant Fresh onions are associated with any illness. The recalling company is Potandon Produce LLC of Idaho Falls, Idaho. The Green Giant Fresh onions were delivered directly to three UNFI retail distribution centers located in Fargo, North Dakota; Bismarck, North Dakota; and Hopkins, Minnesota between July 9, 2021 and August 6, 2021. EveryPlate Onions Recalled For Possible Salmonella Contamination

EveryPlate onions and products containing those onions are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. The company was informed by its supplier, ProSource Produce or ProSource Inc., that the onions may be contaminated. Red, white, and yellow onions imported by ProSource from Chihuahua, Mexico are associated with a large multistate Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states, according to the CDC. There is no indication that EveryPlate onions are associated with illness at this time. EveryPlate is advising its members to discard all onions that were received from July 7, 2021 through September 8, 2021. Onions received after September 8, 2021 are not affected by this recall. Keeler Family Farms Supplied Onions Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

Keeler Family Farms of Deming, New Mexico supplied potentially contaminated onions linked to the huge Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak, according to an FDA update. That outbreak has sickened at least 652 people in 37 states and has hospitalized 129 patients. The other facility named by the FDA so far is ProSource Produce LLC, also known as ProSource Inc, of Hailey, Idaho. That company imported onions from the State of Chihuahua, Mexico, from July 1, 2021 through August 31, 2021. ProSource Inc. recalled its fresh whole yellow, white, and red onions today. The onions were sold under several different brand names.
