FDA: Avoid Sociedad Acuicola GolPac Oysters From Mexico

The FDA is telling restaurants to not sell or serve Sociedad Acuicola GolPac Oysters that were harvested on 12/18/2023 or 12/27/2023 because they may be contaminated with norovirus. The oysters were harvested from Bahia Salina, Sonora, Mexico. The California Department of Public Health told the FDA of an outbreak of norovirus in San Diego County, California that has been linked to consumption of oysters from a specific harvest location in Mexico. The number of people sickened is not being released at this time. Mexican Shellfish Authorities have launched an investigation into the source of the virus and have closed the Bahia Salina growing area to harvest as of 1/12/2024. Sonora Mexico Rocky Point Oysters Linked to Norovirus Outbreak

Sonora Mexico Rocky Point Oysters are linked to a norovirus outbreak in San Diego County, according to public health officials. At least 41 confirmed and probable cases of norovirus have been reported. People started getting sick in mid-December 2023 after eating the raw oysters. The patient age range is from 12 to 83 years. These oysters are only available through restaurants and wholesale distributors. The County Health and Human Services Agency has asked restaurants not to serve Rocky Point Oysters packed by GOLPAC in Bahia Salina, Sonora, Mexico until further notice. The number three outbreak of 2023 is the Papa Murphy's Cookie Dough Salmonella outbreak that sickened at least 26 people in six states. The outbreak was also an opportunity for the government to warn consumers that eating uncooked cookie dough made with raw eggs and raw flour is a health hazard. The case count by state was: California (2), Idaho (5), Missouri (1), Oregon (8), Utah (4), and Washington (6). Four people were hospitalized because they were so sick. The Victor Dog Food Salmonella outbreak is the number nine outbreak of 2023. At least seven people in seven states, mostly infants, have been sickened in this outbreak. The outbreak investigation has not been updated since November 9, 2023. The case count by state is: Alabama (1), California (1), Florida (1), Hawaii (1), Kentucky (1), Minnesota (1), and Oklahoma (1). Most of the patients (86%) are one year old or younger, and the remaining patient is under the age of 65. Illness onset dates range from January 14, 2023 to August 19, 2023. The California poultry processor has agreed to pay nearly  $3.8 million in back wages, damages, and penalties. Investigators found that The Exclusive Poultry and related companies established by the owner allegedly employed children as young as 14 to debone poultry using sharp knives and to operate power-driven lifts to move pallets. New Listeria Monocytogenes Outbreak on FDA CORE Table

A new Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has been added to the FDA CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. It joins six other outbreaks, some that have been solved, and some not. The new outbreak has sickened at least three people. No food has been identified in this outbreak. And the FDA has not issued a recall, initiated traceback, inspected any facilities, or collected samples for testing.
