Another cyclospora outbreak and a new Salmonella outbreak are listed on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table, bringing the number of outbreaks under investigation to eight. An E. coli O121 outbreak associated with the Wonder Coffee and Sports Bar in Seattle has been reported by Public Health - Seattle & King County. There are two people who are sick. The investigation is ongoing. That facility is located at 1800 South Jackson Street East in Seattle. The illness onset date range is from July 12 to July 16, 2024. The patients ate at the Wonder Coffee and Sports Bar on July 10, 2024. Based on information collected by public health officials, both people likely got sick after eating food from that facility. Both patients ate food that could have made them sick, including raw or undercooked beef, or other foods that may have been contaminated by raw or undercooked beef. The case count remains at 113 sick in 28 states and 42 hospitalized, with two potential deaths. There is no information about case count by state, or the patient age range. The severe symptoms that patients have been experiencing include seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting. Lewis Bay Oysters are associated with a Campylobacter outbreak in Massachusetts, according to the FDA. These oysters were harvested from two lease areas in the SC28, Lewis Bay, Massachusetts harvest area between July 1, 2024 and July 18, 2024. The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries closed SC28 on July 19, 2024 becasue of an outbreak of Campylobacter in Massachusetts. There is no mention about how many people are sick, illness onset dates, the patient age range, or if anyone has been hospitalized. Boar’s Head Deli Meats Listeria Recall Vastly Expanded
The Boar's Head deli meats Listeria monocytogenes recall has been vastly expanded to include an additional 7 million pounds of product. Whole genome sequencing showed that a liverwurst sample that was collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for the outbreak strain. At least 34 people in 13 states are sick with listeriosis in the outbreak linked to these products. Two people have died. And 33 of those patients have been hospitalized. The expansion includes 71 products that were produced between May 10, 2024 and July 29, 2024, under the Boar's Head and Old Country brand names.
