A Milo's Poultry Farms eggs Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 65 people in nine states, according to the CDC. That farm is located in Bonduel, Wisconsin. The eggs may be labeled "Tony's Fresh Market" The case count by state is: California (2), Colorado (1), Illinois (11), Iowa (2), Michigan (2), Minnesota (3), Utah (1), Virginia (1), and Wisconsin (42). The patient age range is from 2 to 88 years. Twenty-four people are hospitalized because they are so sick. That's a hospitalization rate of 37%, much higher than the typical 20% hospitalization rate for a Salmonella outbreak. Possible Shigella Outbreak at Elks Lodge in Eureka, California
There is a possible shigella outbreak at Elks Lodge in Eureka, California according to the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services. There are three confirmed cases and five suspected cases that are associated with a dinner that took place at the Lodge on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The notice said that Shigella illnesses are "on the rise" in the county since at least six people have tested positive for the infection since August. The first cluster of three patients was identified in late August, but no connection between those people could be confirmed. The two clusters do not appear to be connected. There are now nine deaths in Boar's Head deli meat Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new death is from New York. Yesterday the CDC said there were eight deaths. And CBS News is reporting that, after a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) request, they received inspection reports for the Boar's Head facility in Jarratt, Virginia. There were 69 records of noncompliance registered by USDA inspectors, including mold and mildew, leaking and pooling water, some with green algal growth, condensation dripping on the product, a rancid smell, insects including flies and a cockroach, and blood in puddles on the floor.
