Deadly Minnesota Cantaloupe Outbreak Sickens 15 With 2 Deaths

The deadly Minnesota cantaloupe outbreak has sickened at least 15 people in that state with eight hospitalizations, and two people are dead. These illnesses and deaths are linked to recalled Malichita cantaloupes produced by Sofia Produce, doing business as Trufresh, that were imported from Mexico. The larger multistate Salmonella Sundsvall and Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak has sickened at least 117 people in 34 states. The people who sadly died in Minnesota lived in the Twin Cities area and in central Minnesota. Illness onset dates range from October 25 to November 11, 2023. Bix Produce Recalls Cut Cantaloupe Products For Salmonella

Bix Produce is recalling cut cantaloupe products for possible Salmonella contamination in relation to the deadly Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 117 people nationwide and has hospitalized 61. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date in connection with the consumption of these specific products. The recalling firm is Bix Produce of Little Canada, Minnesota. These recalled products were made with Malichita cantaloupes that have been recalled by Trufresh. The recalled products are Created Fresh! Grab N' Go containers  and Jack & Olive cups that were sold at convenience stores, delis, and business cafes in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The deadly cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has now sickened at least 117 people in 34 states, with 61 people hospitalized and two deaths in Minnesota, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The deadly cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 162 people in the United States and Canada. Three people have died; two in Minnesota in the U.S. and one in Canada. And 62 are in the hospital; 45 in the United States and 17 in Canada. The number of products containing cantaloupe recalled in the wake of the deadly Salmonella outbreak is large and growing. So we decided to collect them all in one place so you have an easy way to identify if you have any of these items in your home. The Cantaloupe Recalls On November 9, 2023, Sofia Produce, doing business as Trufresh, recalled Malichita cantaloupe that were imported from Mexico. A deadly Minnesota Salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe has sickened at least 13 people in that state, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Two people who lived in Minnesota have sadly died. The nationwide outbreak has sickened at least 99 people in 32 states, with 45 people hospitalized. The brand of cantaloupe linked to these illnesses is Malichita, processed by Sofia Produce located in Nogales, Arizona, doing business as Trufresh. The cantaloupes were imported from Mexico. The cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has grown rapidly, with 56 more cases in 32 states, 28 new hospitalizations, and two deaths, according to the CDC. Two more recalls have been issued. Freshness Guaranteed fruit and RaceTrac fruit are being recalled in relation to the Salmonella outbreak linked to Trufresh Malichita cantaloupe that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. These products were made from whole cantaloupe distributed by that company. No illnesses connected to these specific products have been reported to the company as of November 22, 2023. The recalling firm is CF Dallas. All CF Dallas fresh cut fruit products associated with this cantaloupe recall have expired, but consumers may have bought them and froze them for later use. If you did freeze some of this fruit, discard it.
