Freshness Guaranteed Fruit Recalled For Possible Salmonella

Freshness Guaranteed fruit and RaceTrac fruit are being recalled in relation to the Salmonella outbreak linked to Trufresh Malichita cantaloupe that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. These products were made from whole cantaloupe distributed by that company. No illnesses connected to these specific products have been reported to the company as of November 22, 2023. The recalling firm is CF Dallas. All CF Dallas fresh cut fruit products associated with this cantaloupe recall have expired, but consumers may have bought them and froze them for later use. If you did freeze some of this fruit, discard it. Salmonella Newport Outbreak on FDA CORE Outbreak Table

There is a new Salmonella Newport outbreak on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. It joins the Salmonella Sundsvall outbreak linked to cantaloupe, the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to peaches, plums, and nectarines, and the elevated lead poisoning cases linked to recalled WanaBana fruit purees. There are also two mystery E. coli outbreaks, and the Salmonella Thompson outbreak linked to recalled Gills onions. For the new Salmonella Newport outbreak, 40 people are ill. More Fruit Recalled in Canada Because of Salmonella Outbreak

More fruit recalled in Canada because of a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 14 people in three provinces. There is also a Salmonella outbreak in the United States linked to that brand of cantaloupe that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. This recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results. If more products are recalled as a result of the government's investigation, they will be posted at the CFIA web site. These products were sold in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba, and many have been sold in other provinces and territories. The FDA is weighing in on the Malichita cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. The cantaloupes themselves have been recalled, along with Vinyard brand precut cantaloupe products and ALDI whole cantaloupe and pre-cut fruit products. The case count by state is: Arizona (7), California (1), Georgia (2), Illinois (4), Kentucky (3), Maryland (1), Minnesota (5), Missouri (5), Nebraska (4), Ohio (1), Oklahoma (1), Texas (3), Virginia (1), Washington (1), and Wisconsin (4). A Malichita cantaloupe Salmonella Sundsvall outbreak has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Seventeen people have been hospitalized because they are so sick, for a hospitalization rate of 39%, which is high for this type of outbreak. The cantaloupes in question are the Malichita brand that have been recalled. Malichita Cantaloupe Salmonella Outbreak in Canada Sickens 8

A Malichita cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak in Canada has sickened at least eight people in British Columbia, according to the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). Those cantaloupes have been recalled in the United States as well, although no illnesses are reported here. The eight cases in British Columbia are aged 0 to 68. They live in the Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, and Island Health regions. The rare strain of Salmonella that has caused these illnesses is Salmonella Sundsvall or Salmonella Soahanina. Genetic sequencing that was conducted with some of the patient isolates and the strain of Salmonella found in the cantaloupes shows a link. There are two new outbreaks on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table, joining three other outbreaks. Only two of the five outbreaks have been solved so far. The first new outbreak is a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak that has sickened at least 11 people. No food has been identified in relation to these illnesses. We do not know the patient age range, where the patients live, illness onset dates, or if anyone has been hospitalized. Samples have been collected and analysis has started in this investigation. The second new outbreak is an E. coli O103 outbreak that has sickened at least 12 people. Raw Pet Food Salmonella Outbreak in Canada Sickens 40

A raw pet food Salmonella outbreak in Canada has sickened at least 40 people. Public Health Canada describes the pathogen as "extensively drug-resistant," which means it is much more difficult to treat illnesses caused by this bacteria. The outbreak is also linked to contact with cattle. Cattle and other ruminant animals can harbor pathogens in their guts. The bacteria is excreted in their feces, and can contaminate their coats and anything in their environment. When theses animals are slaughtered, the bacteria contaminates the meat. And when the meat is ground, the bacteria are mixed through it. Many of the patients are children five years old or younger. FDA Weighs In on Mid America Pet Food Salmonella Outbreak

The FDA has weighed in the Mid America Pet Food Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least seven people, mostly infants, in seven states. A recall has been issued for all of that company's pet food products that have a best before date before 10/31/2024. The case count by state is: Alabama (1), California (1), Florida (1), Hawaii (1), Kentucky (1), Minnesota (1), and Oklahoma (1). Most of the patients, or 86%, are one year old or younger, and the remaining patient is younger than 65. Illness onset dates range from January 14, 2023 to August 19, 2023.
