Everest Garam Masala is being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination, along with Everest Sambhar Masala. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The producing firm is Everest Food Products Private Limited of Gujarat, India. These products were not distributed by Everest Food Products and were not intended for distribution or sale in the United States market. Amin Trading Agency sourced the products from Indian markets and distributed them in the United States, and is the recalling firm. FDA Releases Report on Testing Ready to Eat Dips and Spreads

The FDA has released their  report on testing ready to eat dips and spreads for possible Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This sampling assignment started in March 2021 and was completed in January 2022. Refrigerated dips and spreads include hummus, tahini, pimento cheese, and yogurt-based products. There have been multiple recalls for tahini and hummus for bacterial contamination in the past few years. From 2017 through 2022, for instance, there were five recalls of hummus and six recalls of multi-commodity dips that were contaminated with Salmonella or Listeria. Salmonella Grand Challenge Issued on World Food Safety Day

The USDA is issuing a Salmonella Grand Challenge on World Food Safety Day 2023. This challenge brings together scientists from different specialties to fight this pathogen, which causes more than 1,000,000 foodborne illnesses in American every year. The challenge tries to develop a more effective strategy to reduce human Salmonella illnesses linked to poultry. Triple wash your veggies, researchers at West Virginia University Extension advises consumers, to reduce bacterial counts and avoid food poisoning. Researcher Cangliang Shen, associate professor of human nutrition and foods at the university, has studied the microbial safety of farmers market produce, which revealed a risk for microbial contamination from pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria monocytogenes. Outbreaks linked to fresh produce are very common; in fact, they are more common than people think. For instance, there were 40 outbreaks linked to leafy greens from 2009 to 2018. And last year a Salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe sickened at least 88 people in 12 states.
